    I assume they're plugged into the bed outlet? If so, and it seems like a lot for Christmas lights, but is it possible they're pulling more than 100 watts?

    Sounds like he's not using LED light strands. Incandescent ones pull a surprisingly large watt draw.
    In drive your inverter output drops (doesn't make any goddamn sense)
    But your draw is higher than the 100 limit it drops to when you put it in drive

    I used the lights with the very large "oldschool" bulbs, that's probably the issues.

    Yeah, that's probably the issue. You can get LED in that style. I have LED and never had an issue.
