No. I use led strings as they use alot less power, but even my first year that I used regular lights I had no issues. Of course the # of lights and size you use may affect this answer.

Anyone have daytime pics of their lights on the roof rack? How did you run the cord to the bed?? Plan on doing mine this year since, I know my boys will love it.

Perfect way to utilize the outlet in the bed! The lightbar also came in handy ;p

No mods needed. As long as the truck is turned on. Or at least for mine, and every other person who has posted of doing this.

Well, when I put my truck I hear, the outlet in the truck turns off. I push the button to turn it back on, and it will not. So...unless the 18 is different...

Could be the lights are drawing to much and the 100 watt can’t power it? Seems very unlikely but maybe? :notsure:

Then am I missing something? Plugged into the bed...2 strings of lights...push the button on the dash to turn on the outlet...they come on...put truck in gear, the outlet turns off and the switch on the dash turns off. I push the button on the dash and the 100w light comes on, then goes out.

That sounds like it’s somehow drawing over 100 watts, you running the Clark Griswold setup off the inverter? :D

I have run three or four strings of regular bulbs, but I currently use LEDs cuz they draw a whole lot less power.

I checked the lights and each one is drawing 40 watts. But, I unplug one and it stays on...sooo....?
