Chrome badges.... Trash or Cash?

Well, it's not just you per say .. I've seen other posts where having anything 'chrome' on their truck is like having the doctor tell them they have terminal 4th-stage cancer. There are those who freak-out about having a chrome 'T' logo on the steering wheel and wondering how to get rid of that hideous abomination as quickly as possible. All a matter of whatever the current 'taste' is at the time, I guess.

 

I feel ya.... It didnt bother me at first, then when I got sucked into this damn forum site, I was like "whheellll well well..... daddy likey"

 

Trends change over time. Chrome just doesn’t carry the appeal it once did. I actually like chrome depending on the type and color of vehicle. When it comes to trucks, chrome looks much better when paired with a chrome grille and chrome front/rear bumpers similar to the more traditional setup on many full-size and heavy duty pickups. For example, the chrome grille, front/rear bumper and chrome accents on the Tundra work well. The layout of the 3rd Generation Tacoma doesn’t fall in line.

In my case, I’ve never been a fan of chrome on my Quicksand Tacomas. As for my previous Silver Sky Metallic Tacomas, I didn’t take issue with chrome.

Give it a decade or so and chrome may be back in full swing.

 

I bough the OEM overlay black kit. I don't have my 2021 yet here. Do I need to take the badge off the car, to put the overlay, or can the overlay go on the OEM chrome badges while on the car??

From what I have seen, they "pop" right on. Peel the backing, line them up, press and hold. Boom. Done.
That's at least what I have seen for the 19'.

Here's my QS Longbed with black emblems I picked up on Ebay and installed 2 years ago, they've been great. This will give you an idea what your truck might look like.

No the cold won't affect the 3M adhesion, just make sure the surface is clean.





Nothing at all wrong with a black and tan theme.

 

Did you add the black fender flares and bumper caps? That is exactly what I want to do.

And what kind of lift you got there?

 

I have had my OEM overlays for 2+ years. No issues in the desert heat or winter snow.

 

May I ask what kind you got? Just an Amazon seller?

 

I bought the black ones right from the Toyota dealer parts dept counter. They price matched from another dealer online.

 

Here’s about the only pic I have of my vinyl decals. I removed the badges and replaced with black vinyl. Going to order another set for my new truck.

 

No, it's an Offroad so the fender flares were stock, the bumper caps are bumpershellz. Lift is 887 coils, Bilstein 5100s and a 3 leaf AAL, SPC UCAs on 285 tires.

Shortly after that pic was taken I added the Pro style bed graphics, I think the black contrast makes the QS color pop more.

Here's the truck all whored up.

 

I should have my truck in another week and half. FIrst day, will be these overlays. i bought the thick "tacoma" for the back and bed light.

Nice trucks! Black definitely matches better with Quicksand. I installed Textured Black TPO Bumpershellz on my last Quicksand Tacoma, but went with color match bumper caps from eBay this time around. Just waiting for my black emblem overlays to arrive.

Well since we're on the topic of black decals and such on the Quicksand... I decided to create my own truck bed decal where the TRDs logo sits...Here are a couple mock ups of what it "will" look like once I get them delivered...
