WTH is up with that? I just bought a 2012 Tacoma Sport. Unfortunately it came with these crappy chrome clad things. Does anyone know how to get them off without cracking them? And what's underneath?

I'm interested in finding out the answer to this as well. There seems to be a lot of questions regarding whether these can be taken off or not, but no definitive answers or anyone I have seen actually do it.

I tooka center cap off and tried to, carefully, remove the covers but no way. When the weather gets warmer I'll try to remove the tire from the vehicle and see if that works. If I get it off, without breaking it, I'll post some pics.

Toyota's website says the tires are 265/60s...how wide are these rims?

Crawl under and look at your spare, it's got no chrome cover on it. They are painted silver

Yeah, good luck removing the covers in one piece. I looked at prying mine off, and they weren't having it.

If you want to do it, its all or nothing!

I also dont think the center caps will go back on without the cover. IIRC the center caps snap into the plastic cover piece.

I saw that thread too and it does obviously show what the silver (spare) wheel looks like. The question, though, is if or how the chrome-clad coverings can be removed? Looks like most guys who have these wheels are saying a negative to that question.

Searched through that thread and didn't see any reference to the width of the wheel. Anyone know how wide these are?

Thanks big D. That if I ever replace my stock 17s I'll probably try to get close to that size.

Doesn't look like these covers come off. Too bad. Might be looking to sell/trade soon.

The wheels are designed so that the claddings are permanently fused to the wheel and not replaceable. But if you really want them off I am sure you will find a way to do it. I would recommend you find a reseller of remanufactured wheels to take them off your hands. If you need recommendations on who does buy them send me a PM. NOTE This is not a commercial and I do not work for any reseller
