Like many others, my chrome grille surround bubbled and looked like crap. When a fellow TWer gave me his old grill to replace my cracked one, I figured I would give a shot to bed lining the surround.

I removed the grille and surround, pealed back the bubbles in the chrome with a razor (plus a little extra), then sanded the edge of the chrome with 120 grit to smooth out the transition between chrome and bare plastic. Grille removal and prep took about 1 hr.

Sprayed it with 4 coats of Duplicolor bed liner and popped it back on. Can’t even see where the chrome was removed.

I can’t decide if I like the all matte black or not, but I’m pretty sure VIN match wouldn’t have covered up the chrome/plastic transition. Has to be better than bubbled chrome though right?

Look good if you don’t want it all matte black if you still have your old grill just pop in the emblem that’s chrome to break it up
