Yes, I used a 3M painting prep pad to scuff up the grill. I primed it twice and then painted it 3 times. It came out better than I expected. There are a few spots on the top that look uneven that I may touch up. The grill was so easy to get off, I can touch it up some evening after work.

Maybe not as good as the professionals, but I'm very happy with the way it turned out. I may still do an additional coat, but maybe with a roller this time to even out the texture more.

Gorilla that was once chrome? That looks friggin awesome! You just gave me the nads to try and do mine!

On the emblems, I tried sanding them by hand best I could. The paint still doesn't wanna stick. I cut the "Toyota" off the door badges, since I wasn't going to stick those bits anywhere but on my toolboxes decided to try a dremel tool on them . They melt on even the slow speed if you push hard enough to get all the chrome off. Might just end up totally de-badging.

john....just go get some adhesion promotor and spray the emblems with the graffiti remover to clean them up. use the adhesion promoter a few coats, then the black paint. it'll stick good man. its the way i did mine, and mine still look great.

yeah, i think its a little funny to see them all being painted black too... should just trade someone like you and then everyone would be happy:rolleyes:. if i ever do anything to my bumper, its going to be replaced with the off-road plate steel one thats selling on ebay.

Yes, it was chrome. I used the bedliner in a can and just brushed it on (after sanding the chrome for better adhesion). It was really very easy to do, I wish I had done it sooner.

I tried to find someone with a black stock bumper to trade, but no luck, so I just did it myself.

Thanks again Will. Lookin like a few more weekend projects coming up!

My (relatively new) GF already said "I wish you'd pay as much attention to me as you did that truck!". But...but...baby...she's ALWAYS in the driveway!

sometimes...its the satisfaction of doing something yourself, such as painting emblems and whatever else you do to your truck.;)

yeah, i can understand that. i love the feeling when people compliment my bumper and ask where they can get one... then say i made it myself. its nice to get that feeling of accomplishment once in a while for something that you put your time and effort into:)

yep, i agree.... and i think the lower recessed center part of the front bumper would look really good if it were painted black too!
