Hi guys I've been lurking for a few months. I bought a 2015 OR back in Oct. so far I love the truck. I've been a Ford man in the past (since 1979). As probably many of you know Ford makes a decent truck, the problem I had wasn't with the truck (2004 STX) but with the dealers in my area. My truck got dinged while parked at work by a semi. I took the truck to a local dealer to get fixed, it was damaged worse when they were done with it than when I took it in. Went Subaru for a few years (2011-2015), I missed having a truck, so here we are Tacoma owner. My question is why is there so much hate for chrome bumpers, grill surrounds and badges?

Personal preference. I for one dislike plastic chrome like the badges and grill surround because it looks ghetto fabulous. I do like a real chrome rear bumper. I had painted rear bumpers on past trucks and they always got hammered and looked pretty bad after a few years.

Satoshi, debadged, rear view mirror bracket, tail gate hose clamps, trimmed mud flaps.
    Again, personal preference.

I don't mind chrome plated steel like the rear bumper. I hate plasti-chrome (chrome plated plastic like grill surround).

Maybe it's a little old school to prefer some chrome, I've had trucks with and without chrome. I'm not that fazed either way. It just seems that there is like a whole market on TW for color matched and plastic dipped parts. I was just curious if I was missing out on some major trend.

Tisk, TSK. I hate anything chrome, but it is a personal preference. If you like it, go for it.

I do like a real chrome bumper and some nice not to busy chrome wheels. But never understood why people put Chrome mirror covers, bug deflector, rain guards. Looks so cheesy. And I have seen people do every outline of the door edge with chrome door edge guards.

Chrome belongs on classic cars. But that is just my pref.

Chrome if done properly can be good looking on a vehicle. A lot of car manufacturers tend to use chrome to denote a higher options package, and just slap a chrome grill, or some other piece on the vehicle. It is not tied in to the overall look of the vehicle and the rest of the trim. Toyota did this on the Tacoma, and they are not alone in this approach.

I pulled the chrome grill off my truck and replaced it with a body color grill, I think it looks better. I also replaced the poorly chromed rear bumper with a plate bumper when I was rear ended. And the chrome job on the rear bumper was pretty poor to begin with, it was a mix of shiny and satin finishes on a single piece.

I like Tacomas with and without chrome. My plastic chrome grill surround is beginning to peel so it's going to get the body color matched treatment - black sand pearl.

It's a trend. Like black wheels. It will end.

Think back to Altezas. EVERYONE had to have them, plus clear side marker lights, blah blah blah.

When OEs started putting same on the vehicles from factory (like Lexus SUVs) it became un-cool.

I'm typically a de-badge guy, most marquees have too many and they are a pain when waxing, etc.

But I'd be happy for chrome front and rear bumpers. But OEs are under the gun for wt loss and cost control, so urethane over foam becomes the order of the day everywhere possible.

I will be glad to see the plasti dip phase die. Thank goodness it does peel off. :D

I kind of like a little "Chrome". Seems to go better with certain color Tacoma's but Personal Preference for sure.
