Hey everyone. New guy here, and looking to make a potential purchase tomorrow. I have my eyes on a 2017 Sport with an asking of $32.5k. After having a few phone conversations with this dealer, , I think I can score a deal closer to $29k. My concern is that it's a Chrysler dealer and has an extraordinarily high number of single-star online rating reviews, by customers who wish they could have given "0 stars".

The truck seems like it's in great shape by looking at pics and will verify in person tomorrow. My finance terms will have to obviously make sense, I'm putting down 5k. Should I have concerns buying a Tacoma from a Chrysler dealership? Any general tips or precautionary measures that I should be aware of when I go see the truck tomorrow?

If they have that many bad reviews I wouldn’t take the chance.

Pretty much every dealer has very low ratings and a lot of "if I could give 0 I would" I'd test drive the hell out of it and give Toyota a call to see if the vehicle is still covered under Toyota care.

i would spend the extra couple grand and get a new one.
not enough savings per risk ratio for me.
the dealer was given a low rating for a reason.

I believe TOYOTA still has 0% on 17’s right now and there are some out there. Hurry up as it changes every month but financing alone will save you the difference in cost not to mention you’ll have a new truck from a Toyota dealer. Much better. Just my .02

I bought my 2013 at a jeep dealer because the price was right. The dealer tried fucking me every which way and I also left them a horrible review. They tried to sell me a warranty for 2800 that was good for 500 miles. Etc. either way couldn’t be happier with the truck itself. If it’s the right deal, go for it.

No, he means 0% interest rate if you purchase a 17 Tacoma using Toyota financial service.

If you finance $29,500 at 2.9% you are going to pay about $2200 interest so that brings that $29,500 up to $31,700. You can get a 17 brand new for around $33,000 or so with no interest. That is why you should look at the new on instead of the used one.

As a note, you need really good credit to get the 0% financing though.

Ehhh I bought my 2014 from a Jeep dealer

Just make sure you KNOW everything about Tacomas as possible and drive the hell out of it

I also already had approval on my loan from my credit union better than anything the dealers were offering and I had to walk off the Jeep lot before getting the deal I wanted but it was still a better purchase than anything Toyota had at the time

Obviously the dealer rating has nothing to do with this truck and it’s unlikely he’ll be doing any more business with them after the deal is done. As long as the car fax checks out and test drive goes well, it could be a still be a good deal. I would prefer the miles to be low and truck to be spotless though.

I say check it out and give it a good shake down. Its a Toyota and those reviews are probably related to services after initial sale which wouldn't apply to you. Depending on the mileage, it will still have a Toyota warranty and you can go to any dealership. All the people that think a few thousand dollars is no big deal, God bless ya. To me, I know where that money is better suited for the same truck. Now the financing is something to consider though. How close you going to be to new all said an done?

I put little faith into online opinions when asking questions such as yours. The truck is the truck and we can’t look it over for you. The dealer has bad reviews. So is that the dealerships fault or unrealistic customers? Once again we aren’t there and can’t get a vibe from your salesperson or how they do business.

As far as being an off brand dealer this is no different than being any other used car deal. They want to move inventory and know they won’t see you after the ink dries. No matter what advice anyone gives your assessment in person with the truck, the dealer and the salesperson carry more weight. If you can’t read people and situations you are screwed.
