Any upland bird hunters that "enjoy" the chase of the Red Legged Devils?
    What's your preferred shotgun?

Not looking for your "secret spot". Just general story telling.

    I myself prefer my sexy little Beretta A400 28ga. That's correct! 28ga!!!
Least for early season birds. Then the big bother comes out to play for those tough late season birds.

I don't hunt them, but I can understand why one would. The ones around here are mutants. I've had to do double takes before because at first I thought someone's chickens had gotten loose. They were huge!

My favorite shotty has always been my Remington 1100 (circa late 70's / early 80's) with improved cylinder in the lightweight version. I like the weight for all-day hunting trips. Use the same gun for quail. Or even doves. And when we break out the beagles to run rabbits, you guessed it.

The Remington 1100 is a well liked gun! Especially an older one when things were made to last!

Off topic, took the cute lil 28 out for some wild pheasants today! Performed flawlessly! Managed to bag a couple ducks and a few quail as well.

First time I hunted Chukar I bought a Mossberg over under from Walmart on the way out. My dad had an 870 and my buddy an auto Remington. End of the first day I shot 12 Chukar to my buddies 1 and dads 0. Oh and I shot a coyote. Most enjoyable day of hunting I've ever had and the birds are delicious. Thought about buying a new shotgun but its just too much fun with only 2 shots at a time.

Cody-- chucker are a fun quarry

My weapon of choice is actually a Goshawk but I have never connected on a chucker with the goshawk. I know some guys who have though.
When getting chased by a Goshawk the chucker will scream and make sounds that drive the Goshawk into a frenzied I must fly you down state. It's high end falconry for sure.

upland game hunting is my favorite. Right now we mainly hunt bunnies.

I flew a Female Cooper's hawk on California quail with a GSP in Utah and that was about the best time of my life for hunting. A steady point with a foot flush for the passage (wild trapped) cooper's hawk was exciting.

I've watched videos of people using falconry for bird hunting and it definitely looks like a good time! Form the sounds of it, it is a good time! Just a matter of time before you'll connect with one of the red legged devils!
I'll be sure to get you some with the 12 or the mighty 28! Definitely sounds like a blast with falconry!

Sounds like you had a great time! Always a plus when you can get a coyote when you're out doing anything! I'd like to give the over and under a try while hunting! Till I convince myself to fork out the coin for the one I want I'll stick to the autos! Surprisingly I've found that they are AMAZING when made into jerky! Any favorite way to cook them?

Yes it's a blast - can be a nice way to get in shape. Love being out there. With tha hawk it's off the fist and typically down the drainage. Cam go long way so it becomes a foot race to get to bird on kill. (before eagles and coyotes)

If you are into classic guns there's a great book called GOOD GUNS by Steven Bodio. He's an amazing writer and a falconer as well. Highly recommend RAGE FOR FALCONS too.

I bought my over under from Walmart so it was pretty cheap. Great thing about them is there's so few moving parts they're incredibly reliable so even a cheap one will last forever. I just cook them in a pan with a little seasoning, mashed potatoes, and some veggies.

This thread needs a revival, it's about that time of year again. I've been looking for information where certain upland game birds can be found since obviously state game and fish agencies aren't going to give out too much info for hunters. I found a website where birdwatchers post the locations and numbers of birds they see, so inadvertently acting as scouts for bird hunters lol. So now I have a good idea of where to hunt chukar, grouse, and turkey.

Got a good deal on a Browning Gold Hunter years ago, 5 in 5 out. Those beady eyed, red legged, masked, shiny headed bastards are the only thing I care to hunt these days, oh and they are delicious as well.

In the kennel is my Dad's Weimaraner, Clearance.
They were getting up close! usually my dad and I hunt upland with our 28ga shotguns. But it was last minute decision to go chukar hunting instead of duck hunting. So these were all taken with the 12ga's

Nice Cody. This pic is from few years back, sadly just lost the Llewellin under my left arm, still haven't gotten over that one and don't know when I will be ready to have another.
