you don't think that the govt gets enough taxes now. I don't know how I feel about a powerhouse like the Catholic church but the small hometown church pastors don't exactly get rich. Ya I know there is a lot of mega churches where the leadership makes a good living but you can't force one to pay and not the other.

government does not have an income problem, it has a spending problem.

and personally...I'd like to see more private charity (like churches and others) over government charity.

Look past the ability of Hitler to rouse hatred of someone else (he didn't hate jews, he fueled that sentiment). Look past a vague anti godless excuse (vietnam was to stop godlessness? WTF). Look past fueds created by leaders using the same Us vs Them tactics of most politicians and the reality is religous people that will follow charismatic leaders will be pawns in the never ending power struggle of tyrants.

It's not religion, but manipulation of the religious believers that allow evil leaders to achieve the money and power that blackens the history of religions.

Religions that don't want control don't produce genocides. Godless communists that don't want control don't produce genocides either.

Money, Greed, and power are the only driving force.

Catholic vs Protestant Ireland was always England vs Ireland, never religion, and it's the same with the middle east. It isn't Sunni vs Shia vs Kurds in Iraq. It's a fight to control the oil.

Religion is just how people are lead into group.

With no religion we find other ways to group.

Penn state is a relatively small school.

The catholic church is a world wide instituation. And it's never been weaker.

I don't care to look it up but more kids are getting raped by civilians sickos than catholic clergy.

What I don't understand is why ANY parent of a child raped by any priest/teacher/coach doesn't immediately demand the same prosecution like they were anyone else. Why do priest not get dragged to jail to fend for themselves without the shelter of the church?

first, I don't know anything worth talking about with regard to Korsovo, I did not simply ignore it.
second This thread is nothing, I am talking about America. Yes there is more to life than TacomaWorld.
Third, WTF are you even talking about, diminishing the sacrifice of so many service men and women by stating the entire operation was some kind of pride issue. GB and his Dad were atheist?

    Kosovo War
The Kosovo War, was an armed conflict in the province of Kosovo, of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, fought between Yugoslav government forces and Albanian separatist forces (KLA), supported by NATO from 1998 to 1999.[71]
The KLA, formed in 1991, began attacking police stations and Yugoslav government offices in February 1996, which resulted in an increase in the number of Yugoslav security forces in the region. This led to an escalation into a conflict, although it was initially viewed as an insurgency. The KLA was regarded by the US as a terrorist group until 1998 when it was de-listed for classified reasons.[72][73] The UK and the US then lobbied France to do the same.[74] The US and NATO then cultivated diplomatic relationships with KLA leaders.
In 1999, the KLA was officially disbanded while some members joined the UCPMB in the Preševo Valley,[75] and the National Liberation Army (NLA) and Albanian National Army (ANA) during the armed ethnic conflict in Macedonia.[76] UNMIK instituted NGOs within Kosovo such as the Kosovo Protection Corps (in accordance with UNSC resolution 1244 which required the establishment of a civilian emergency protection body to replace the former KLA) and the Kosovo Police (which consisted mainly of KLA veterans).[77]
NATO countries promoted the war in Kosovo as the first humanitarian war[78] based on short-term military reports and casualty reports that were later criticized as highly inaccurate.[79]
The Kosovo Conflict was the center of news headlines for months, and gained a massive amount of coverage and attention from the international community and media. The NATO bombing and surrounding events have remained controversial.[80]

And if your church were taxed the same as any corporation, little would change.
Just as your personal donations are deductible, the charitable activities of the church would be deductible.

But it would push the churches into doing more positive work for their community rather than building palatial "castles of worship"

My uncle was pastor and owner of a church in Rio Linda.
The church was a 40ft double-wide and it remained that way for decades.
He worked 9-5 as a mechanic.
There was not a single person in that church that was in need of anything... and this was in Rio Linda.
The church took care of them, and they paid it forward.

I realize the difference in size between the two. point being the Catholic church has (or attempted to) covered up a whole lot more than Penn state and no one is "calling for the wrecking ball" as Larry suggested.

What happened to paying the same rate.... not lower, and not higher?

46% of Americans pay no income taxes.
At least 50% of those actually get money back through credits... they "pay" a negative rate.
