This is my 4 day overland trip to Vermont with my girlfriend Ashley.

We originally had plans to go to a 3 day music festival for my Bday but waiting to long the camp passes were sold out. With so much momentum modding the truck for camping, missing out on the music festival was already in the back of my mind. I had a new mind set of "where do I wanna go...". There's a lot of beautiful places within driving distance of me but there was something about Vermont that felt like it would be ideal to overland. When I decided on Vermont I was getting a lot of questions of "where in Vt. you goin?" and I kept answering "I don't know lol". Ashley still wasn't on the same page as me at that point, thinking we were camping in the same spot for at least 2 days... I knew deep down we wouldn't be staying in the same place twice. So I got the truck packed and we were ready to hit the road from New Jersey to Vermont!

My entire mentality going into this was that we werent going to know where we were going until we crossed the boarder into Vermont, getting into the state we busted out the map.

We stopped at the first general store we came across near Jacksonville to find out about firewood. The parking spots had quite a veiw!

    007_zps8gyal5yf_e53a022c30fbc9adc6c1137381ac93dd86979b5f.jpg

We talked to the woman inside that said there was a state camping park down the road that had firewood for sale. We headed to Molly Stark Camp ground and met a very friendly woman that explain the camping situation on the grounds which seemed more like a camp ground than primitive truck camping. So we bought some firewood from her and hit the road. The new cap basket worked out perfectly, I loosened the straps to the kayak and stuck two bundles in the basket under the kayak and strapped it back down. I also fit one more bundle of firewood in the bed. She sent us in the direction to check out Grout Pond. We had great success getting into the Green Mountain National Forest coming upon Grout Pond and finding our first site!

The next morning after breakfast we chilled out then packed up camp. Before leaving we went down to the pond to check it out.

Under a cloudy sky we decided to launch the kayaks and bring some fishing poles. We kayak fished for about an hour till we felt a few drops of rain and decided to wrap it up. No fish caught but Ash had a nice bite!

While packed up and ready to leave Grout Pond, Ash made sandwiches for the road while I topped off our water scepter cans from a well pump. We headed Northeast in the Green Mountians to check out Jamaica State Park.

Pulling into the state park camp ground we came up to a booth. The man inside was friendly and explained to me the type of camping offered there. Ash and I knew it wasn't an adventure to pay to camp in a personal lot for the night so we got as much info as we can out of him about the Green Mountains and headed on our way. Using the sporadic cell service we had, we did further research on Vermont car camping which led us to find Michigan Brook in the Northern Green Mountains.

Was such a great spot to camp for the night! Even though it down poured on us in the middle of the night for hours, besides waking up to a soggy camp in the morning all our supplies were dry. The only casualty was my Vans.

    040_zpsqa1glvfr_07a1d83aac5b0e1a97208415a4c579286aaf2fc2.jpg

Again after breakfast and chilling we packed up camp and ventured out to find the next spot.

Being our last full day they're and wanting to make the most of it, we decided to go check out Hamilton Falls back south near Jamaica Vt. There is a large beautiful waterfall hidden in the mountain, that's where this happened!

Stoked on life we hit the road to find a spot for our last night camping! We decided it was a good idea to head south to camp to relieve some time on the ride home the next day. Found some information on Kelly Camp Trail in Bennington which seemed like a good place to check out. Found a nice open site to make home for the night.

Reflecting on the trip we had an amazing time! Ashley has a full understanding of overlanding and can't wait to go on another adventure. This being my first truck camping adventure I'm so stoked how everything went down. From driving throughout the beautiful state of Vermont to asking the love of my life to marry me.. from hitting myself in the face with a machete to chopping my hand with a hatchet.. I wouldn't change a thing! So many good memories, thank you to all the friendly locals we came across, The Green Mountain National Forest for allowing us an adventurous getaway, and Thank You to my Fiance' Ashley for being supportive in all I do.
