Fortunately I was able to borrow a RTT to see what all the hype is about. Thanx to @V5ioV for being a great dude. My fiancé and I went to the Poconos to check out Bushkill Falls this past weekend.

Packed and stacked ready to roll

Got in late and setup camp

Made breakfast and headed out. Spent the day hiking around Bushkill Falls. Great place to visit, even with a dog.

@Wheelspinner was planning on meeting us for an over nighter. Sitting at camp I called him up and we decided on exploring rather than sit at camp. We ventured out to Raymondskill Fall.

Awesome weekend. Thanx Steve for scouting out our free camp site and showing us more waterfalls than we planned to see. And thanx again V5iov for the RTT, the fiancé loved it and is now high on the list.. with trailer :woot:

See, that's why it's hard for me to jump on the RTT train... breaking it down every time you want to use the truck.

How inconvenient was it for you?

If you keep only what you need in the tent and don't deploy the window awnings, it can be packed up in 2 minutes or less. Especially with a partner that is familiar with how it works. I leave our pillows and 2 person sleeping bag in it and just food the tent up.

On a wheeling trip it can be annoying if you have already set it up and then decide to go back out for a trail ride. Or if you're glamping and decide you need to run to the store. I look at it as a reason to bring everything I need, and once I set it up, it's time to relax and enjoy camping until the next morning.

Everything has pros and cons.... and having to put it away to get mobile again is definitely a con.... but I still love it... and truth be told I can set it and put it away fairly quick... it all depends on where you have it and how tall you are

I'm glad you guys enjoyed it mang... and having you and your lady be able to give an rtt a test drive is a win... we know now what you need and you can be a step ahead on how you move forward with mods to make sure certain things fit right or clear other accessories on the racks...

I'll admit, first few times I opened it was frustrating and a huge turn off. I was solo and having it over the cab means I have to walk around the hood back and forth. But I did notice it did get easier the more I opened and closed it. I also had a tough time because of my cap basket and awning being so close to the tent. For the RTTs I've seen that are on the roof without any other accessories or obstructions, they must be easier to open/close saving time.

As far as having to break it down to move the truck, if I had RTT on a trailer or even ground tent at the site I was camping I would still have to do the same. I was staying off a forestry road, wasn't leaving anything behind if I drove away.

Like said they're definetly pros and cons.. you have to weigh your options and decided for yourself. For me, I feel I'm going to encounter so many different camping trips variables that I want multiple options. Basically what would work best for me is a RTT on trailer. I may drive out with the trailer, I may leave it home and ground tent it, or I may put RTT on the truck for whatever reason.. For me I want the options.

Additional problems. Why a RTT would be better on a trailer for me.

Not only can I not center it over the cab because of my awning..

But because of my basket and awning I can't fully use the window awnings

Looks good, thanks for the info.

We don't have a lot of public land/forest roads, so Big Bend/state parks are my usual areas.

Having a fixed site is definitely the norm for me.

That said, most of the expensive stuff stays in the truck and we can cook off the tailgate.

This is basically what I see myself with in the future. Rtt that can be raised or lowered depending on my needs, preferably using the bed rack that I already have so it can be easily mounted to the bed of my truck or the rack of the trailer. And a large enough bed space for motorcycles or a quad. I think it would come in handy for transporting firewood/mulch/ etc as well for home improvement projects. Plus it has a tonno cover when dry space is important.

A little late but I bet you could build your own trailer... All youd need to start is a trailer frame the size you want with the axle and leaf packs you want in it.... The rest you can almost make yourself... Minus the fender flare thing that trailer has going on.

Jay what all did you have to get for the cam assembly? And why did you get it? Is your stuff seized or bashed up? or do you just want to replace yours before the seize sets in like a death grip?

IMO there's two ways to build a trailer, completely from scratch or refurbish an existing trailer. You kinda described something in the middle..

Are you asking for part numbers? My shit is super seized. Beach buggy problems.

Looks sick. Bout to move into my house I'm getting closer to wanting utility trailer, will help with some of the move and future house projects like demo and landscape. I would like to have that utility trailer and an off-road trailer separate. As far as my idea of an off-road trailer, as of now it's simple. I just want small military trailer in decent condition that I can add cross bars and a RTT to. I'd like to have something solid to get the job done at first, than over time mod it to my liking.
