The 75-822 has been sufficient for me on all of our trips so far. It's 'certainly not the best' as you say, but it's definitely far from the worst you can do. They get pretty high praise across the board.

I use Morse Code with my muffler.

    1 brap = "I'm bored."
2 braps = "Really bored now"
3 braps = "Im getting ready to do something"
4 braps = "ooooh, slipping, might get stuck"

long sustained braps = "i'm stuck"

I use a Wilson Lil Wil that I have mounted on my hood. Seems to work fine and I can still kind of get the truck in the garage if I want without knocking the antenna off the roof. Now that I have a bedrack, I'm considering adding a firestick or something to the back end of the truck, but we'll see if that actually pans out. I'm looking at getting the HAM license for funsies so I may be completely overhauling my setup if I do that.

Using the rubber ducky antenna on the handheld, your range will be heavily dependent on conditions. Best case, I was able to talk to a buddy from his handheld about 1.5 miles away on top of a ridge in RRG, when I was in the truck with my antenna. Typical case is probably less than that. Using the Lil Wil, we were able to hold a conversation up to about 6-7 miles apart, with various buildings/electrical structures in between. That was impressive to me.

The Lil Wil is on Amazon for $40 or you can get it at the CB shop in Monroe for ~50

Looks like I'm going to be adding the 75-822 to my list of recovery items along with the Lil Will. Amazon... here I come!

Not gonna share exact prices per good GB etiquette but there is some witchcraft afoot here for sure. The prices are *really* good- talking full Fox setup for cheaper than OME good.
