Um well...not really sure what your deal is, but if you'll notice I asked a question clarifying BECAUSE, your post (first one quoted) basically says it would provoke the criminal to feel a certain way, in contrast to "(alleged) prevention".

    It really is that easy.

I saw you post AG holsters.
Then you went on about Crossbreed's. And $30+ belts.

And with my Kentucky CCDW license, I don't "have" to conceal, but the law is much easier to follow and less gray if I am. Kentucky, far as I know, doesn't offer a simple License to Carry a Handgun. I wouldn't want that anyway. Don't feel like they offer any protection in a court or legal situation. Falls into the argument of the Constitution and the 2nd are equal to the right of carry, concealed or not. And they don't equal that.

Simple...Just because you don't understand, that doesn't make me wrong. It just means you don't understand.

No mention of "criminal". Sorry, but you don't get to paraphrase and or re-write what I typed to fit your agenda.

In this quote, you see that you mentioned first "prevention". That refers to a criminal....preventing a criminal from doing harm (provocation)...via everyone open carrying.

I suppose I could write blabbery posts that even I couldn't discern...

Also, I'd like to know where your "proven fact" information comes from about triggering gun rights activists....

Actually, there is no sense in discussing it. Gun chats involving personal preferences are about like truck topics involving personal preferences.

I simply asked the question of complete open carry actually being a deterrent of criminal activity....

Edit: this under the idea that people would get more comfortable with OC and seeing guns on a daily basis after a short while.

You work in sales and/or customer service. Do you really trust the general public with a firearm?

Honestly, I don't really know the "fix".

I like Sweden's ( I think...) process of every male doing two years of service and being given a rifle right out of high school with full training. Seems to be quite a deterrent of crime for them.

I'd like to think that some system like that could work here...however I know that it would probably fail quite quickly. So, we are back to licenses and permits. In Indiana, you dont have to take any classes. Just fingerprints, background check and money. I dont think that is the best way, but it is the easiest. In Ohio, I think they require a certain amount of hours of training completed before you can get your permit. I like this.

It seems as though firearm training sessions are popping up EVERYWHERE. Makes me question the quality of training provided.

I'd like to see, if you're gonna have to pay for a permit or license, that a full training regimen is included by the issuing state. I think that would not only provide clear information that the person is "proper" but also trained "properly".

The problem with required training, like you touched on, is that the quality can range wildly, from very thorough and helpful, to literally 'if you have a pulse you pass'.

There was a woman in my CCW class who only got about 50% of her shots on a paper plate from 5 feet with a .22 wheel gun. That lady is probably running around with a gun in her purse now. Do you feel safer?

Quality. training. is. everything. If I knew everyone around me had a firm foundation on how to safely/intelligently operate a gun, then I'd have no issues with every single person walking around with a gun on their hip. That's closer to the Switzerland* model.

Unfortunately, the reality is that we all probably have neighbors that are the kind of people who don't clear their glock before stripping because "they know it's empty", and there's no way our government will pay to train everyone, because of obvious reasons

    Switzerland! Dammit.

Well, I suppose how you look at the situation is going to depend on whether you feel safer with Betty and her wheel gun. I mean, if she werent there, you'd have a 100% chance of dying, and with her there you have a 50% chance of living...lololololololololol.

So who standardizes the training facilities or instructors? Anyone?

Would mostly depend on if I trusted Betty to at least know to check her backstop before shooting that .380, missing the bad guy, and ruining my fucking day when all I'm trying to do is buy some gummy worms from the Sunoco.

I'm not sure where the standardization comes down from. I assume the state attorney general or something. I could go dig up the little book I got, I suppose.

It's all a pipe dream fellas. Sad to say.

I agree with both. KY requires 8 hours minimum of class time, including the written test. Then at least 20 shots in the silhouette from 7 yards, can't be outside of the outermost ring. Then you have to show that you can strip/clean your gun, then reassemble. I'm sure there's more to it, but that's the general run down. Then, all that time and money is gone if you don't pass the city, county, state, and federal checks. Then there's at least a 6 week period before you get your permit, that you have to pick up at your residing county's sheriff's office.
Time is taken, at least in my state, to scrutinize the individual before handing them a permit to CC. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this!
Hate waiting, but knowing that there aren't a bunch of unstable hillbillies packing 8" 454 wheel guns around helps me sleep better.

Finding a good class and teacher is up to the student, but shouldn't be, needs to be a standard in place. Luckily, I got a good one who worked with me alone on draw and fire control for hours.
The NRA has now gotten involved with CC permits, again at least here in KY, and they introduced their own standards that go a bit beyond the state's more "basic" rules and guidelines. Cost is higher now, though.

I took the class, watched the video, and written test in my instructor's dining room.

    Shot rounds in his backyard.
Yes, it's made into a range. With proper backstop. Fucking Kentucky hillside.
My book is fat as fuck! Like 60+ pages.

I think the Raging Bull is .454. I know S&W has one too

I had a Raging Bull in .44 magnum for a while. 8", ported/vented barrel, big squishy grip. Was a hell of a gun, and a riot to shoot, besides the fact that it fired $1 bills at the cheap end. I don't care what people say about Taurus, they make a mean wheel gun in my book.

I've shot the S&W .460. No thanks. That's a 'do it once for the experience' type thing for me.

I dunno. I think if we came together and decided on a good direction for standards, contacted the NRA to work with different states, we could probably get some sort of standardized system set up. Maybe even make a few dollars....somehow some way.

I am by no means an instructor. However, in consulting with instructors, we could probably come up with a great plan.

Think they'll ever institute a nationally recognized class for high school students to take for safety?

Individual states might make this a possibility. But nothing like that will ever happen nationally in our political climate.
