My favorite place to wheel is Black Mountain in Harlan Ky. That's 4-1/2 hours of hard driving, each way. I just make certain I don't do anything that's gonna kill the truck. I'm starting to get to be a BIG fan of "low intensity" off roading. Had enough "beat the snot out of those trucks" 4-wheelin' back in my misguided youth!

I'm a big fan of "don't break shit/damage shit that will cost a bunch of money that isn't needed to be spent" mantra.

I'm also a big fan of "not spending the night in the woods because you cant get out 4 hours away from home" idea.

Keep your eyes and ears open....Watch for a "local" with a dirty truck and ask them where they wheel. You might have to do so for a while, but sooner or later, you'll find a place close to home. It may not be the Rubicon Trail, but a nice little "play spot" within a few miles of home is always cool.

We have a place near here, maybe a 1/2-mile of trail in all, that's got a nice spot to build a fire and chill out. It's private property. I made sure the owner was OK with me being there. In return, I help keep the trash cleaned up. There's maybe 10 or 12 trucks that frequent to place from time to time, but I rarely ever see more than 1 or 2 at the busy times....

I'm just waiting for my mother-in-law to drink herself into oblivion then I can build trails on the property we currently reside on.

Well....That sounds like a plan too....

I quit racing dirt bikes in the early '90's. Isn't there a place near Connersville where they hold a National Hare Scrambles? And do they allow trucks on that property?

No, that's not the place I was talking about. I know all about Haspin Acres. (Raced there too. shit hole place) They couldn't run a National there if their life depended on it. After I thought about it a while, the place I'm thinking about may be closer to Indianapolis.....

The name eludes me, but I know the place you're referring to. I've driven past it many a time.

I clicked on the enduro link (on the hare scramble link) and saw where the BLACK COAL NATIONAL ENDURO has made a triumphant return! That was my absolute favorite endure. Next was the Covered Bridge Enduro in Matthews Indiana, followed by the SUMMER BUMMER in Roselawn Indiana. With the Black Coal back on the schedule, I might have to go buy me a new dirt bike!

I think we should hold a meeting of the minds so to speak, and try to raise some cash and buy some land. Build our own shit, and do it right. Seems to be quite a deficit in this market.

Don't need to rent a space. I have barns and plenty of room. Might need to bring some specific tools...I also have beer, and a nice in ground pool. And, get this, AAAAAANNNNNNDDD places to camp. Boom.

Cant empty it, the liner, even though it has a concrete floor, will "float" and move. its about 3/4 full, with a cover on it, so it will need a healthy cleaning and some heat.

I'm all for camping and hanging out drinking beer. Perhaps we can have a get together come warmer weather (Or now, I'm not really that bothered by a bit of snow!)

IN ground pools are a pain in the ass, even more so than above ground. With an above ground if you have an issue with plumbing, you can get to it....IN ground....hello new concrete. We recently had the entire area renovated. The liner is about 37 years old. The plumbing was as well. So we had them come and redo all the plumbing up to code, and electrical. All new concrete, and an automatic cover. Fence was replaced, and all new landscaping. IT WAS A HORRID undertaking. However, with new plumbing, it is actually much more efficient when cleaning, as the pipes don't leak. The filter has much better vacuum, so it is much faster at filtering. Also, with an in ground pool, your water line needs to be high enough to keep the liner grounded, but lower than the skimmers as not to freeze the pipes.

My parents had an in ground pool when I was growing up. I would say that the positives outweigh the negatives. It does make property more difficult to sell, though, as CA, AZ, and FL are really the only states were prospective buyers expect, or at the very least don't mind pool maintenance. My parents are getting ready to sell, so this past Autumn they had the concrete broken up and the pool filled in.

I will say, the one thing that really is a bitch is that if there is a water leak you're fucked. I remember having to repair the concrete under the liner when i was about 9 y/o. They were talking about pulling the liner out, redoing the concrete, then replacing with a new liner. I said fuck that, I'm small and can fit between the liner and the concrete, just lower me down and a bag of concrete after me. Dear god was it a hot sweaty dusty mess under there. I was coughing up concrete dust for days.
