+1. Riding in someone else's truck on wheeling trips pounding beers is just as much fun as driving. Just don't let anyone let you navigate...

Thanks for the advice, adding cap mainly for my two pointers. Getting them out of our SUV will be so nice. Drawers will serve a couple purposes from organizing some gear that I always like to keep in the truck and being able to sleep in the back when we're just trying to find elk and not looking to do a full camp setup, pull out grill will be a nice upgrade from the standard dehydrated meals we usually have with jetboils. We often end up camping pretty far from the truck, so it'll be nice not having to do any work much like your habitat setup you have and just head into the woods with a full pack. I'm considering saving some weight with a Alu Cab vs ARE fiberglass. I'll keep a close eye on the suspension and lean. Just found you on IG btw! Didn't take long to recognize your truck!

Yea. You might be able to dodge the craters on the main road to where we camp.
This is exceptionally FUN! Riding and drinking, not Josh navigating...

Clint's face was everyone after we had to turn around.

Josh was the monkey in this instance.

All jokes aside, I had a blast on that damn trail that wasn't! It was a challenge for sure, navigating swampy mud holes, tearing off 3rd gen rear bumpers, recovering a Titan, etc...good times

Have you pulled a permit for The Wave hike? The official name is Coyote Buttes North and it is part of the Paria Canyon/Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness. I tried pulling a permit a couple years ago, and kept getting skunked. I haven't tried lately.

You can fine more information here.

If you do have a permit, and want company...let me know. I might be able to take some time off, and it is someplace I REALLY want to see (and it is dog friendly, so I can take my pup with me, as opposed to all the national parks).

No permits ordered for anything yet. I also have to schedule a day for Antelope Canyon tour. Want to make sure my dates are accurate and correct from work and everything before I order some stuff! I'd be down for anyone going along the way, are you from the area or live out that way?

If you really want to do the Wave hike (and it looks spectacular)...put in for a permit. The chance of you pulling one is slim-to-none, but if you do pull one, you will want to plan your trip around it. It is very well known now, and LOTS of people are trying to get on that hike. The permit process is done about 3 months in advance, so if you want to go late spring/early summer, then now is the time to start applying.

I did a trip through Utah a couple of years ago, and at the time I was driving a beat-up Grand Cherokee. After that trip I decided to pick up the Tacoma. I was not able to do all the things I wanted to do in Utah because of the vehicle. Now...I should be able to do more.

I am in N.Ky at the moment, and will probably be around here for quite some time. My next trip will probably be to Colorado, but if someone pulls a permit for the Wave...I would love to get out there and take some pictures. It would almost be worth it to plan a trip around that permit.

Good luck, and if you want to know anything about my Utah trip (or some of the stuff around Antelope Canyon) I will be happy to pass along what I know. It is a good time, and I wouldn't worry too much about Antelope. You will want to schedule it ahead of time, but it is not as cut throat as the Wave. Antelope is handled by the Indian reservation and they are happy to take your money and run as many people through as they can. The Wave is managed by BLM (?) and with it's popularity they are limiting the permits to ~100 people/day (and they get thousands of applicants for a day).

I'd love to hear everything you know about the are. My trip is through Colorado, down southern Colorado, through Monument Valley (northern AZ), across Page, AZ (Antelope, Horseshoe Bend, Grand Canyon), up through southern Utah for Wave (If possible) Zion national park, grand staircase, back up through mid Utah towards Moab, then back through Denver to catch a concert at Red Rock Ampitheatre.

Those are sounding like my plans anyway.

It says I need to apply in May for a chance to get a permit in September.. I'll put that in my calendar!
