It wouldn't be a wheeling trip. More for hiking for sure. We're trying to go sometime this fall if we can find a place to stay. It's always booked when the leaves are changing though.

We'll have to plan a hocking hills camping trip, maybe early November, or winter camp? Anyone else enjoy winter camp?

Speaking of out west, since some of you have trips planned or in the works already, have you found any good reference materials or books for National Parks? Not just trails but sites & campground or lodging info?

I'm thinking the following will be on my list.

    Badlands SD
    Mount Rushmore
    Glacier National Park
    Bozeman, MT to visit family
    Yellowstone
    Grand Tetons

the downside to 285s is they will have you looking at cab mount chopping and various other trimming/reshaping to get them to fit comfortably to wheel on. 255s have none of that.

All the National Parks have fairly informative websites, and there's alot of books on the zon for them, including very detailed maps. My wife got me some for RMNP when we went last year and they were great.

I'd bet they're wider than that. That's a common theme here as well. Then heavy diesel trucks with chrome 6" lip wheels on rubber band "off road" tires.

Never seen mud on any of them. Always shiny. Pussies.

I did notice some rub with 255 in certain situations. Probably the fender liner or pinch weld though. Haven't looked to see.

The problem with a lot of options on the zon is finding the right one & not wasting money. I'm just starting to plot out landmarks on a map to see what I can fit in with vacation time. Then it will be time to purchase research material!

National Parks are tricky, a lot of times, I'll stay in a National forest to camp and hit the National Park during the day. Most of the National Parks are modern campsites and backcountry permit only with reservations that sell out 6 months prior.

check out the web for good campsites outside of the standard reserve type freecampsites.net is a pretty good resource, just be cautious, do your research and follow the rules.

Am I wrong to assume that a larger profile (i.e 75 or 80 versus 70) would allow the truck to “absorb” more impact from rough roads or while off road? I feel like the 265/70 does a decent job but I’d like to see more meat on the tires after this upgrade.

All are worth seeing, I have glacier on the list for this year, missed on the last trip out west. I would also state that I went off season to Yellowstone, and it was still crazy crowded. Yellowstone and Yosemite are like malls to me, just prepare yourself for a good amount of people during the summer.
