Interesting... Wheeler’s, Toytec and Headstrong all recommend longer studs with anything over 1/4” of spacer.

And if you scroll back and look at the picture I posted the other day, I think I currently have about three threads through each of the nuts with the 1/4” spacer installed. Makes me wonder if I should try to squeeze a 1/2” in there before taking things apart.

I always said I wanted to have $100k in the bank before I had kids.

    Didn't make it.

Now I have two kids and no money.

I didn’t exactly plan on being divorced with two kids at age 34... definitely didn’t plan on owning two homes and not living in either of them.

When I have time AND it isn't raining....I'll take a picture....but.....1/2" spacer on drivers side and there's a full thread + left above the 3 nuts....stock studs.....been on truck almost 3 years and if my math is correct 96000 miles. No issues.

I believe you so no worries. If I can get the 1/2” spacer in there without swapping studs, it saves me a lot of effort and time.

The real question is, with 103k miles on the OEM upper strut mounts, should I replace them now or just wait until one of the 5100s wears out and I’m forced to disassemble?

I helped a buddy change shocks on a 2009 Tacoma a couple weeks ago. His top hats have 205,000 miles on them and they looked just fine. We just re-installed the originals.

It’s a long story and it’s only for a bit longer... but the agreement did keep me from having to pay child support, so as much as it sucks right now, it’s better for my finances in the future.

Oh yeah, I get the kids about half the time and I pay for half of their expenses. Just no ridiculous mandated set payment amount due each month, once the houses are both sold.

Changing subjects, has anyone had a good experience with a local body shop or know anyone who paints?

My fuel filler door is rusted on the inside and the hinge is about to break. It only opens about half way now and last time I filled up it came apart a little bit. I bought a new oem replacement on Amazon but it’s unpainted and the original one is riveted in place. I’m way past the DIY spray paint days so I’d like to get a quote or two to have it painted and installed.

It’s just a fuel filler door so I’m sure any decent body shop should be competent enough to paint it to match (my only concern is the truck is 9 years old and black sand pearl) and then remove the old rivets and install it with new rivets.
