Bryan and I are still going. Though, I just learned I have a wedding that evening. Im skipping the wedding and showing up late to the reception. Probably leave the trails around 4. Nothing like showing up to a wedding in a dirty ass truck.

I will most likely be following this same route or similar on Saturday with my Jeep buddies. We haven't picked a time yet, but sounds like 9am might be a good time to pick a meetup point and hit the trails. Others more familiar with the area are welcome to lead. We followed the route in March and took a few wrong turns along the way, but I'd feel much more comfortable finding the correct turn-offs, etc.

Bryan is pretty familiar with the area, I’m not far behind him on it either.

Yea I’ve done quite a bit of the trails down there. I haven’t done old fincastle due to the big boulders. I know a guy who did it in a stock Jeep and said it wasn’t too bad. I’ve not done any of the west loop: Mtn springs rd, Cow creek, High rock road or Furnace pilot rd.
That trail that John took Steven and I down on the new section may be impassable due to all the low lying ponds on that trail from the back waters off cave run lake. Those trails might be under water lol. Most of the ones you mapped out @crazyaussie should be pretty decent. My only concern would be Fixer Lee Co road. A lot of that trail is in the creek.

Fixer-Leeco is impassable right now due to a gigantic hole. Don't even try it.

Old Fincastle also has one of the larger creek crossings on the DBBB/KAT. Depending on recent weather it can be intimidating.

Dang, that sucks! That was one of my favorite stretches when we went in March....looks like more rain in the forecast this weekend too. May make some of the other routes too risky for my liking also.

Yeah, otherwise a decent little road.

Honestly though, don't do it. This hole is swallowing rigs left and right. @Summers_Kytaco_19 and I were some of the last to make it through before it got apocalyptic.

Yea it happened right after we went down. I seen it on ridethedbbb on instagram but didn’t know if it had been repaired yet. Sandy ridge rd/ Lower devils creek had a bank wanting to wash out and was getting pretty narrow to get by. I don’t know if that spot is still good or washed out. It’s close to where the power line is down. It may be fine but I remember that section. I’ve been through there several times.
I think we should be ok on most of the trails just as long as it don’t pour rain all weekend and flood the creeks. Most of the major flooding is about 40 to 50 miles south east from slade.

I was wondering how the flooding was down there. I'm sure a lot of routes became a lot tougher thanks to erosion....also good point about the route that went through the lake, that may be impassible. I saw a post from the forest service that a lot of cave run was closed due to it's depth.

Anyone seen any recent trail reports? Is it even smart going? I was in florida during the rains so I have no idea how bad that area was hit.

I tried looking it up on Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway Facebook page and I don’t have Facebook but I seen Fixer Lee co road was still closed for the mud hole.
And apparently big Andy road is blocked due to a land owner blocking it I’m guessing. They are not super clear on why it’s blocked. Im guess people on side by side tore it up or something from what I can gather. If anyone has Facebook go on Daniel Boone Backcountry Byway and check the post and comments and read what all it’s saying about these issues. I’m guessing that you can’t go all the way through the trail from Big Andy to Sandy Ridge road.
I’m still headed down Thursday and if I go out Friday I can give a trail update/report sometime Friday evening.
I think you may be able to come in from the other way if you wanted and go down Sandy ridge road and lower devils creek to David’s Big Beach Boulder and turn around before it starts up the hill if someone wanted to.

Looks like a pretty decent chance of rain down there this weekend. Let me know what it looks like Bryan.
