I did every oil change in my taco from mile zero onward, but I didn't deal with anything other than the factory sheet metal skid, which even beat up was easy enough to wrangle. I still prefer to DIY it, especially when regularly wheeling and such, to inspect for damage/leaks/loose bits that a lube tech might not know to look for.

Always done my oil changes myself. My coastal offroad skids have an access hole for the oil drain plug. As for the oil filter, I just let it drain onto the skid and then hose it off really well. There is plenty of space between the skid plate and filter housing to get a long ratchet and the filter housing socket up in there

KYTLCA usually has a pretty strong showing, and if you are looking for truck friends they will be way more active than us TWers, but they use facebonk as their primary medium, which I hate lol.

Personally I avoid group rides, and going out on weekends where there's a ton of trail traffic :crapstorm:

Meh, I wouldn’t care about all the Jeeps if I could actually go. I’ll be in Colorado at a conference.

Yeah the Cincinnati area doesn’t seem super active which surprises me as close as we are to stuff.
I’ve never done big group rides but if it’s anything like when car groups get together there is bound to be some stupid crap going on.

A few years ago there was a really active group of guys in the TN/KY area that often drew Cinci guys, but after COVID that died way off. I don't know if anybody's taken the initiative to setup those sorts of meets again since. With how much stuff exists in northern and eastern KY like the KAT/DBBB, Windrock, Rush, Black Mountain, and others, there's lots to do, but there's enough serious skill requirement that it's hard to justify driving a daily out there and possibly having to leave it broken with intent to return. Personally, once my truck is up to speed, I'll be doing trips in the region, but that's 6-12 months out before I've even got my basics squared away.

Right on. COVID just screwed everything up!

I am probably in a similar time frame. Pretty much looking at next year to get rolling. I only bought the truck this year because of the redesign. What all do you have to do to yours?

Skids, sliders, shocks, and springs are going to be mandatory for me, plus some basic recovery gear like maxtrax, straps, a comealong, etc. That's enough to get out the door and get started.

It's a bit further south than the KAT/DBBB, but Windrock is hosting the Appalachian Toyota Roundup this Labor Day if y'all want to go see built up rigs and find people to wheel with. ATR is quite stock rig friendly, I took my showroom stock TRDOR there in 2017 and had a blast. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/appalachian-trail-formerly-toyota-roundup-megathread.809072/

Anyone have a cheap exhaust shop in Cincinnati? It’s for my daughter’s camry. It appears to be an easy job if you have a lift.

100% not a Jeep event. I’ve been the last couple years. It’s generally a pretty good time. I’ll likely be there again this year along with a couple of others from here. But myself and the couple fellas that come down with me stopped paying the fee and don’t do the group rides anymore. They’re to packed and it’s to many people that just don’t know how to wheel. It’s still fun meeting new people and seeing all the cool rigs. They’ll be as many or more Toyotas than Jeeps.

That's similar to what I am doing. I don't know how much I will need the skids but I just feel it's needed for my sanity. Thinking aluminum RCI's. Debating if I leave the TRD skid or replace it. Debating on a front bumper or just a hidden winch mount.

I wish I could do that. I am going to be in Asheville that weekend. Maybe next year.

I did a lot of wheeling on the stock TRD Offroad skid and it survived fine. It's not heavy duty but it's better than nothing til you need heavy duty.

Right on. I have the Pro skid so I think it's plenty heavy duty at this point. Just was debating to make it uniform and/or to save on some weight.

Has anyone upgraded to an AGM battery? If so, who did you use to adjust your alternator output?

I have not. What is the diver to make the change to a AGM?

Deeper cycle, last longer, “less” maintenance, shorter recharge time and the biggest for me, handle load better.

I think the voltage in the 3rd Gen is controlled by the computer where as the 2nd Gen is controlled by a diode in the fuse box….I think I read that in one of the AGM battery threads when I was researching going to an AGM battery for my 2nd Gen truck.

Yes. The computer adjusts the voltage output of the alternator on the 3rd gen.
