    Need some clarification on this subject...

    I am looking to get a noticeably louder exhaust sound without installing an entirely new exhaust. I started to do a little research on exhaust tips, not too much information though. Do clamp-on exhausts effect the sound, or are they just for show?

    Any recommendations?

    Just buy a muffler and have it welded into stock exhaust piping.

    No need to buy an entire catback kit to get noise.

    Welcome OP.

    In all seriousness, exhaust tips are just for looks. The best route to just get a different/louder tone is swap out the muffler only. No need to do all new exhaust unless you are going to tinker with the intake as well. I went with a flow master 40 series, got the deeper sound I was looking for 200 bucks. I know a lot of people also like the magna flow as well.

    Welcome to TW OP.

    I recommend heading on over to pep boys for an exhaust tip (try anzi or monza) and whatever other glue/stick/clamp on parts are available. Anything from Lund or AVS is guaranteed to make it faster and louder! Don't forget the fender ports!!
