I have an 01 Tacoma Prerunner that I am going to convert to 4x4. I do not care about 4x4 indicator lights, I am going to run a j shift tc, clamshell front diff with cv axles. I picked up this clamshell front diff and am having trouble identifying what exactly I have. There are no actuators, it's high pinion, and the axle shafts are 27 spline, I counted the diff splines as well. Everything I look up for clamshell is 30 spline, and the 7.5 IFS is 27 spline, but has a diff cover and not clamshell. I'm trying to figure out what I have exactly so I can order gears and parts.

That looks like a front diff for an earlier Tacoma, mainly due to the lack of e-torx bolts on that front diff tube.

Meant for manual hubs, hence the lack of any actuator.

It is, the guy I bought it from had it in a 96 Tacoma, and he ran the ADD axles. You have to stop to shift it into four wheel drive.

i believe any 1st gen tacoma and 3rd T4R IFS diff will work. You just have to make sure you have matching gears as your rear diff

I've kinda figured that out and bought one last night with 4.10 gears. I'll use my non ADD extension and mounts. The clamshell I have is 3.58 gears.

Wait, I never understood what you were even looking for or asking?

Whether it were an ADD equipped or manual hub vehicle, the 3rd member is the same. The differences are the cv axles, and the tube extending out on the passenger side.

3rd Gen 4R (all are ADD) and 1st Gen Tacoma use the same front end.
