    Hey everyone,

so I have done a ton to my truck over the last couple weeks. Bilstien 6112/5160 suspension with headstrong 3 leaf aal. SBC upper control arms, new muffler. Running 285/75r17 k02s on 0 offset wheels. OTT tune and I also just finished doing the ECGS bushing today. I’ve been driving around with no issues, however when coming in tonight my wife was outside and hear a clank sound coming in the driveway which is a slight hill. It only does this when I literally am pulling up super slow in driveway I tried to make it happen on the street and couldn’t. I drove around to see if I could hear anything at a few miles an hour and I’ve only been able to recreate it in the driveway and even then it seems like things have to be just right for it to happen. Part of me thinks it’s nothing but then part of me starts to wonder if something is going on from all my changes. Also the truck was aligned after all the suspension work. I have a video of sound but it isn’t a supported format.

Thanks I will check that tonight. Only 25k on the truck so now that I’ve heard the pop/clank it will drive me nuts until I figure it out.

So lifted the truck and rocked the front driver tire and could here a clack going forward and backwards. Tried passenger side no sound. Got underneath and had wife move the tire and when I held the brake pad the noise stops. Going to try the dual brake pad clip mod and see if that keeps the pad from slapping and if that is all that was causing it. Will update if it solves it or not.

Just got done adding a spring to the top of my caliper so I got one on top and bottom of the pads. Wiped the pins down light with anti seize and now no more clanking going forwards and backwards. Did the passenger side while I was at it.

I have nothing of value to add to the resolution but just wanted to commend you on your updates of this thread for anyone else in the future stumbling upon this :headbang: Maybe revise the title to say "resolved" and more pictures/videos of what you did when you fixed it as well? Just my 0.02

Thanks I will try to get a couple pictures of it with the extra spring clips added. Next time I get the tire off and add them to the thread. In the meantime I did add the title change.

Mine started making a similar noise about two months ago. I’m at 23,000 miles. When I next change the oil (I’m in the OCI 5,000 mile club), I plan to try to find the source.

What is the dual brake pad clip mod? Do you have a link? Thank you.

Check out this thread they talk about the noise. Mine if I jacked it up and moved tire forward and reverse quickly you could hear the click clack noise( little quieter without load) but still loud enough to hear.

Also here is a good picture of putting two clips on the caliper. Mine only had one on the bottom. I have not had time to pull tire back off so this is from that other posted. Credit to @2WD for great photo.

I recently diagnosed a clunk noise for a TW member. Every time they shifted D to R they got a clunk. It was the front pads. They were due for replacement (60k+ miles). After replacing pads n rotors, cleaning the pins very well and greasing pins, noise was gone.

So, mine is clanking when you turn the wheel. I traced it to the cat shield. I have removed the TRD skid plate and cat shield and it has stopped.

What should I do on re-install. A little grease at the contact points?

It wasn’t the bolts as they have anti-seize on them.

Skid plates will always create noises. They bond as the frame flexes. The plates on the FJ drove me insane. Once I figured out what the noise was, I was more relaxed about it

I re-greased the bolts and put a few small pieces of cut bicycle inner tube material at the contact points where the noise was originating from.

    Fixed!

I hear a 'clank' now and again when pulling out of the driveway or traversing a speed bump, probably 60% of the time.
Thought there was some previous thread regarding some 'bolt' that was replaced that corrected this.

Good stuff! I watched that same video while I tried to figure mine out. I agree the more I tear things apart the better I understand how it all works together. I can’t learn if I don’t just jump in and do it.
