Wondering if anyone has the clanking in the transfer case? I can mmove my front drive shaft by hand and get it to happen faintly and it's certainly alot louder when driving.

It's not all the time, but, happen from dead stop to rolling or sometimes coming to a stop.

I have changed the gear oil regularly, and have close to 200K on my truck.

Are you sure it's your transfer case that's clanking? You can get a sound like that from your driveshaft if it's not greased...

Could it be from the front or rear diff? I had tht kind of noise and my rear diff was shot. Could come from the front too, the front drive shaft isn't turning while driving unless in 4wd

Yeah, I can crawl under the truck, twist the front drive shaft by hand and create the noise in the transfer case. Only with say a sharp rapid movement though.

Haven't tried it with the rear, but, I would assume it would be the same.

You could take a video and post it on YouTube And link it here, there could be a bunch of different noises

I added the shim and it did not help my pinging issue. Trying to figure out now. I also have developed a new sound. It almost sounds like tire scrubbing under acceleration.
