So how do they explain the posters in here who have a "TRD", but no e-locker?

Someone probably put the TRD sticker on the bed and passed it off as TRD . The hands down way to tell if you have a TRD is the electronic locking rear differential. Everything else can be faked (sticker, Bilsteins, flares) If you do not have the E-locker, you dont have the TRD Off-Road package. Please check out ToyotaReference.com and read the old sales brochures for the 1st gen Tacos. The will tell you exactly what packages were available for each year.

You are wrong. There are 4cyl TRDs without lockers. The elocker was not offered on a 4cyl automatic no matter what. I have a TRD, 100% sure it is a TRD and always was, but no locker.

    Snowman,

I did a little more research. Your truck is an 04. Well according to my old Taco info the only year you could get a TRD package in a extended cab 4cylinder auto trans without a locking diff is 2004. Every other year before 04 you could not get the TRD package with a extended cab 4 cylinder with an auto trans.

So only a 2004 4 Cylinder Auto Trans TRD Package comes from the factory without the E locker. Any other year has to have the locker.

There are too many damn year variations! haha
Like I said before, the elocker is the only thing that matters since stickers/suspension/wheels/tires can all be changed easily. So if you are looking for a Tacoma ignore "TRD", look for an elocker.

Page 3 of the attached sales brochure confirms that the TRD Off-Road Package includes "off-road-tuned suspension with Bilstein high-pressure gas shocks, P265/70R16 BFGoodrich tires with solid white lettering on 16” 5-spoke aluminum alloy wheels, locking rear differential, fender flares and TRD graphics." There is, however, a footnote that says the locking rear differential is "Not available on 4-cylinder PreRunner models."

Given your truck's configuration, Snowman, the brochure's implication that the TRD Off-Road Package is available only on "V6" equipped "4x4 XTRACAB" models, appears inaccurate.

There are so many of those brochures that are contradictory. It also doesn't list 4.56 gear ratios, but most (if not all) 4cyl autos came with 4.56s.
    ????
I know the window sticker from my truck said trd package, I threw out the stock billies when I put on the 5100/5125s, and I also had the 5 star 16" alloys. (and of course stickers)

    Too many to list.

You only posted the first 2 pages which doesn't include the information about the 2004 not including the ELocker on 4 cylinder models. I know that my truck is a TRD and that the stickers I removed were the factory original stickers.

My only question that remains now is if mine is actually a TRD limited.
How do I tell if I have the - defroster-linked CFC-free air conditioning?
What do the - fabric-trimmed sport seats look like?

Limited Package7 — includes color-keyed front bumper and fender flares; chrome grille surround, door handles, power remote outside mirrors and rear
bumper; sliding rear window with privacy glass; dual-fabric sun visors with mirror and visor extensions; orange-illuminated white-faced gauges (speedometer,
tachometer with LCD twin tripmeters, and coolant temperature and fuel-level meters); power windows, door locks with remote keyless entry; leather-trimmed tilt
steering wheel; leather-trimmed shift knob (manual transmission only); washer-linked variable intermittent windshield wipers; cruise control; defroster-linked
CFC-free air conditioning; fabric-trimmed sport seats with driver’s power-adjustable lumbar support; and Deluxe 3-in-1 AM/FM Cassette/CD with six speakers

I have all of these options with the exceptions noted in my previous post that I'm not sure of.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
    ^^THAT^^

The brochures are a good basis for info but not entirely correct. All the brochures I have seen have never mentioned the other brand shock that came on some TRD's. I believe they were called toyioko or something along that line. And they were black.
