The camera is flush, the nut on the back is not. It’s held for months and nothing moves though so I don’t see that as a problem. If the nut loosened over time I would hit it with a bit of red locktite. The camera came with a few shims to adjust the angle outward. It was a tedious task to swap them 85478C74-AAEA-4CAB-A041-34D4AD36CACD.jpg out but I found the next to largest worked best for me

This is cool. I installed what I did the way I did because I’ve been spoiled by backup cameras over the years and apparently forgot how to judge distance when backing up. All that work to keep the bumper straight and I got tapped by an F150 last month and got a nickel-sized dent anyway

    How is the view?

Edit: Can you see the edge of your bumper?

I bought the exact same camera and tried the drill through the existing bolt hole in the tailgate handle method. Needless to say, the camera didn't line up correctly and caught the handle when pulled. Plus when tightening by hand, the bolt broke off the camera. SMH. The second camera is OTW so I can go for round 2. I saw you said that you drilled a separate hole a bit higher on the backside. Did you happen to take a picture of where exactly you drilled the hole? and how you got enough thread through to catch with the nut? Did you use the provided nut or a smaller one? Any pictures would be greatly appreciated!

AIR the center of second hole is exactly 5/16” above the center of the first or 5/32” from the edge of the hole that was too low. Like I said in post #40 the nut that was included with the camera has a shoulder on one side and I had to turn that over so the shoulder faces away from the camera to get enough threads to catch. I will be home early next week and will pull the tailgate apart for a photo. In the meantime I went back and cleaned up the part between the tailgate and where the wire goes under the bed

Did the same as @Kevins60 but cut out the handle to fit the camera in, epoxied and painted. I’ll post more pictures of the view and handle later.

Hey Cutter - just recently saw this thread, and wanted to say Thanks for the detailed tutorial. I got the same camera and mounted it just like you did, but angled mine up a bit more. Anyway - Thanks again!

@Kevins60 yo very late to this discussion. so if you're drilling out the screw hole, how is the handle secured afterwards?

The threaded nipple of the camera takes the place of the bolt. There was just barely enough thread to get the nut to catch.
