Hey I like to keep it consistent lol

    Thank you for the compliment!

Nope, no rubbing at all during normal on-road driving. I turned the wheel hard both ways to double check and it doesn’t rub either side of the fender or the cab mount. It is definitely close though. It seems like 2” of lift is the minimum you need to fit 33”s.

Love it. I love going down there. I see a lot of nice rigs down there, whether it's a Tacoma, 4Runner, even some sick Land Cruisers. Where'd ya go?

Yeahh man there are so many nice rigs down there. Recently I’ve been seeing a ton of built out Lexus GX460 that look really amazing on hatteras island. We were in the Avon area.

I like your topper, I was looking for the side windows that fold up and on A.R.E website I don't see it listed and was wondering what A.R.E. CX bed cap model you have?

I believe mine is the CX classic. If you talk to a dealer I’m sure they can put those types of windows on most of the models, they’re extremely customizable.

If you go to the dealer, and they will show you the topper book that includes the options... which you can pick what you want for the topper so they can place the order... Once the topper is arrived at the dealer, they will call you to bring your truck over and they will install topper and the options.

I dropped the spare tire down from underneath the truck today just to make sure I know how it all functions. I’ve read up on how to do it but never actually done it myself, so I took it down in the driveway. It was actually extremely easy and the wheel/tire was in good shape.

I also moved the jack and all the tire changing equipment from under the rear seat to the toolbox on the side of my bed cap for easy roadside access.

Next I need to get a full size spare and then make sure the lug nuts on my Black Rhino wheels can also be used with the spare steelie.

    Awesome looking truck!

I'm not normally an aftermarket wheel kind of guy, but those look damn good on yours. What made you switch to the MT's? Any concerns with them for long distance travel?

    Thanks so much!

It’s really funny you ask about the MT’s and being concerned about long distance travel.

I was going to wait to post the update until later this week but I’m actually going back to my 265/75/16 Grabbers. I did a ton of research before I got the Yoko’s and I didn’t think there would be an issue with long distance travel but the loss of MPGs and the increased braking distance have really surprised me in a bad way.

The Yoko’s are only about 5 pounds heavier each than my Grabbers (and both are E rated) so I didn’t think the differences would be that drastic. I guess the aggressive tread design must really affect those two categories.

I originally wanted to get them because I knew they would get me in and out of everywhere. I knew an MT wasn’t really practical for a long distance travel rig but I had read so many good things about the Yoko’s on-road behavior that I figured I would give them a try.

Don’t get me wrong, the are a great tire but I think with the amount of highway driving I do, they just aren’t practical for me.

That makes a lot of sense. It sounds like we use our trucks similarly. We like to camp as remotely as possible but don't look for difficult obstacles to tackle just for the sake of it. we also have to travel pretty far to reach the places we enjoy most. I'd like to go bigger than my 265/75 AT's, but every tire I've looked at involves too many trade offs on-road to make sense for me. Someone needs to make a lighter weight 255/85 AT in a C load dang it!

do you happen to know how much your rear is lifted over stock? I have the same AAL with an ARE shell and it barely put me over stock height, 22.5"/22.75" from center of hub to flare. I may have to add a small block like you did.

I like the spare tire that should be placed in the bed or on the aftermarket tire swing door on the bumper. Not big fan that tire goes under the bed.

Yeah I feel the exact same way! I wish they made more C rated tires for 16” wheels. It does sound like we use our trucks for basically the same purposes, sounds like they’re built similarly too!

I’ve never measured the rear as it sits now to compare it to stock height but I believe it’s about 1” or so higher because my front is 2” taller than stock and my truck is almost perfectly level when unloaded (if that made any sense).

I really wanted to go bigger than my 265 AT’s also because sometimes they just look a little small to me. I definitely do not regret buying the 285 Yoko’s because that scratched that itch and now I know that there are just too many cons to a 33” MT for how we use our trucks.

Just to put it all in one list, some of the things I ran into once they were on the truck that I hadn’t expected or thought about before:

The increased braking distance, loss of MPG and the headache of buying a full size spare and then the additional headache of trying to mount it somewhere, speedometer is off by more than with a 265 tire, odometer will also not be as accurate (if you care about that type of thing).

So now I think I can safely say I know that the 265 AT is the most practical for my truck. I would still consider doing a 285 AT tire in the future but then you run into the same spare tire stuff again.

Yep I agree 100%, I think the full size spare will be living in my bed once I get it.

If I remember correctly... about the speedometer which can be adjusted after the tires change, I mean from 265 to 285... I saw the post somewhere.

If I went to 285 route, then the speedometer do not bother me since the truck would be used off road only. Unless there is an app that read speed accurately. Right now, I am using stock size until I am ready to get it lifted and change tires.

I’ve never been able to find a way to calibrate the speedometer on the truck to account for larger tires. I didn’t think it was possible.

I know you can get a Scan Gauge or something similar and program that for your tire size, then you would have the correct speed and MPGs, odometer etc.

With the 265’s I’m not as concerned about it since they aren’t that much bigger than the 245’s that came on my truck.
