I’ve had both, it just adds so much utility to the truck. Especially with the shell.

yeah you can put more of a variety of stuff in the bed even with a shell. I’m having a hard time finding one though. Maybe it’s because I’m cheap. I don’t want to spend 2k on a shell lol.

That’s the only problem with the shells, you have to really want/need one for it to be worth the price haha.

Another awesome day on the trails today, this time in Pennsylvania.

Sadly I had to cut the run short, missing some stuff I wanted to see, and head home early because of storms that rolled in but I still got some good outdoors time.

Still loving the Grabbers; they hold up to everything I throw at them and still look new after 25K miles…

I have a big trip coming up next month and I have decided to go up to a 285/75/16 AT tire after that. I love the Grabbers but the 265 size is just too small with this setup for my taste. It’ll be hard to say goodbye to the Generals!

If anyone is interested in them let me know, I’ll be asking a very reasonable price when they go up for sale.

man i've been loving this build for inspiration. I am upgrading the shocks next month and i will probably include an AAL. But your most recent post about tires has me back in decision limbo!!!

would you say the main reason you ditched the last set of 285s was because of the MT or the other issues you listed? my tacoma came stock with 265/70/16 and ive been wrestling upgrading to 265/75/16 or going bigger.

also did you have the radar in your grill when you upgraded? I know i have one around there but its the only silver left on the truck

@hailsouthern Hey! Thanks so much for the kind words.

Yep, I have the TSS radar in the aftermarket grille and it works just fine.

The reason I got rid of the 285 mud terrains was because of the loss of MPGs, acceleration and braking. I’m fairly confident that I won’t have those issues (at least not as bad) with an all terrain 285. Honestly, even if I do have those issues I’m probably going to stick with the 285’s once I go up because the 265’s just look too small will with my lift, in my opinion.

The 265/75/16’s are a really great size. They function very well and the MPGs are decent also. I just want something more aggressive and beefier because I’m starting to hit some tougher trails and I have some pretty big trips planned that will take me through a variety of tough terrain.

The tread on the g003’s was incredibly aggressive and I took a much bigger hit in terms of braking and acceleration than I expected.

I also will say that I wish the 255/85/16 St Maxx’s were cheaper. I’d absolutely run those in a heartbeat but I don’t think I can stomach paying that much per tire.

Agreed! They're a great option but a little pricey. almost $120 more per tire than the Nitto's i was looking at.

Thanks for the feedback! I think i'm going to have to pull the trigger after I lift it. you may have convinced me to go true 33s.

Let me know what you wind up doing! There are so many options it makes my head spin. The Ridge Grapplers are one of my front runners right now.

I love the Ridge Grapplers too! I ran Terra Grapplers on my last truck and got 55K out of them before I sold it. Know a few guys who run RGs and they love them. I think I'm mainly looking at Nitto bc I haven't had any problems with them to date.

lol man, so many similarities. I used to have a Ram 1500 that I had Terra Grappler G2’s on. I swear I spent months looking at tires before I picked those. Sadly that truck was such a POS that I don’t remember much about the tires.

Yeah I’m reading a lot of great things about the Ridge Grapplers and a lot of people specifically who say they have gotten them in and out of a lot of crazy places. I really like the fact that it’s a hybrid too, it makes me feel like it’s hopefully a little more capable than your average all terrain tire but not as crazy as a mud terrain.

I have a couple cross country trips on the horizon with a lot of off roading along the way, so I am looking for a really strong off-road capable tire that is also respectable on the highway.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend so far. I have another trail ride planned for Monday, weather permitting.

It will be the last shakedown before the big trip in a few weeks :D. I’ll post some pics if I do make it out.

Great build! It looks like we use our trucks in the same fashion.

If you’re still looking around for tires, I’d recommend checking on Duratracs. I swapped over to them last year and absolutely love them. I actually gained about 1mpg over stock when I made the switch to bigger tires. Completely stock suspension on a 21 limited fit 255/70/18 with no rubbing.

Thanks! I love your truck too, looks awesome

That’s good to know about the duratracs, I will keep that in mind. Right now I feel like I have my mind pretty set. Although I won’t be buying tires for a few months so I’m sure by the time I make the purchase I will have changed my mind 10 times lol

I’m gonna get some more miles out of my Grabbers and save up for a bit since I want to run a 5 tire rotation next go around.

Are you still on the 5100’s in your most recent pics? I’m shopping around for a lift kit and really like the way yours sits.
