You're literally living my (specific to my tacoma) dream right now. These are the types of travels that I bought my truck for, and am in the process of building it for.

Aside from the amazing views and awesome trails, how were all the interstate miles? Did you travel with urgency or make frequent stops for misc. sightseeing? I am the type to stop at every state welcome center, read every information board, etc. and my wife just wants to get where we are going as quickly as possible.

Also, how was mpg? How does the cabin / seats feel after countless hours of driving?

My wife and I are planning a trip to moab (we live in AL) that would be a similar overall distance. I am taking notes

That is so funny, we are planning on doing Moab next year.

The interstate miles were super easy, two dogs in the backseat and no issues. We didn’t stop during the drive except for food, gas etc. MPGs we’re good on the days with flat driving (low 20’s) and not good (around 15-17) when we got to the mountains of Montana.

On flat highway driving I’m always averaging in the low 20’s for MPGs. The only thing I really “needed” that I didn’t have was a Weboost and obviously I survived without it so it wasn’t really a necessity but I’m definitely going to get one.

I didn’t have any issues with comfort, although I do have the seat jackers and I think those make the seat WAY more comfortable.

I’ve been really set on going up to 33’s again but after how well the 265/75/16’s did on this recent trip, I might actually just stick with them.

Did you get bed stiffeners that you asked me about on my thread. I see it in the list in your first post but I don't see the photo, or I might have missed it somewhere?

Yep! I have them. I can’t remember if I posted a pic somewhere or not but I like them a lot. Even if I didn’t have the extra weight of the ARE shell, they’re worth it just for the extra tie down points.

Love your black lab. I have a 13 yo black lab and 3 year old yellow. I am happy to come across your build. I am Tim. I am new to TW. I had a 2000 PreRunner back in 2004 and that was when I fell in love with the Tacoma. I ve had several other Toyotas during that time even a 2018 Tundra. I went back to the Tacoma though. I have a 23 Tacoma Trail. I am new to this (over land) and which way to go. I appreciate your thread and how you approached your build. I am in a similar boat. I won't lie though those rock rigs are impressive lol! Your rig looks really good. Are the crossed out modifications what you have on or discarded? Anyway look forward to learning from you.

I have had labs before. Chocolate and yellow labs. They love the water... no matter if it's a swimming pool or lake/ocean/creek.

I don't have pets at this moment. Good thing I didn't get another pet because I go out lot these days. Especially construction jobs.

I may get a dog when I am settled down and home more often. Unless I get a girlfriend then she will take care of them while I am out on the road for work.

Hey! Welcome and thanks for all the kind words. Yep, the crossed out stuff is all things I have had on the truck in the past but eventually ditched.

Correct, it’s all up to date. Everything that is not crossed out is on my truck at the moment.

I’m happy to answer any questions you have!

I had it professionally done at a local shop that specializes in stuff like ceramic coating and frame sealing. It’s some proprietary blend they use. It was pretty expensive but it has a 10 year warranty and they do a free yearly frame inspection, then reapply the sealant to any chipped areas. I felt like it was worth it since I plan on keeping the truck for forever.

Yeah it was one of those things that just gives me so much peace of mind. I’m glad that I had it done when I did because when I pulled my sliders off there was rust where they were mounted to the frame. The place I went too removed all that rust and then applied the sealant.

Nice...prob gets you 100k more than if not sealed. I hear tacoma's axels rust out before the engine dies.

Yeah that’s exactly what I kept hearing so I figured it was one of the more important things to do early. Definitely more important than all the “cool” stuff haha

Agree. Love all the pictures from your first trip in your Tacoma. Very cool! I hope to do that as well. I live in Texas but I am from Alabama.
