Okay I have an important PSA for everyone.

I just dropped my full size spare to make sure the chain was working and everything was in working order. As some of you may recall, I had my undercarriage professionally coated a couple years ago. It turns out that the spare tire was rubbing against several parts of the frame and totally rubbed away the coating, to the point where it’s just bare metal:

    IMG_0156.jpg IMG_0154.jpg

I’m super thankful I found this before the winter comes around. I got in there and hit it with some of my rustoleum farm implement rust preventative spray (can is in the pic below if anyone is curious). I get the frame re-coated yearly but the rattle can will do until then. Also gotta love the o-light flashlights for being magnetic and super functional. They’re the only lights I use anymore and I’m not ashamed to admit I have a lot of them lol

Also, switching my old beat up BF Goodrich spare (still on the wheel in this pic) to one of the Grabbers I recently took off the truck:

I just had my spare tire swapped to match my 33s. Ironically today was my first foray into stuffing that sucker back under the bed. Did you have to deflate yours much get it to fit?

Ohh yeah I’ve read that can be a pain. Fortunately my spare fits juts fine while fully inflated since I’m still on 32’s (LT265/75/16).

Also, I like that your tag line says “Maxxis militia”

Not sure if I posted this pic before or not, I think it may have slipped through the cracks and I forgot after I took it…

Well guys, I have fallen victim to a Labor Day sale.

@hyrule_trd they took advantage of my tire problem :pout:

I’ve been getting a little concerned about running mud tires for our upcoming cross country trip. The Maxxis MTs are great but I not sure how they will do with that much highway driving and if the noise will still be tolerable. I’ve also always wanted to go back up to 285/75/16’s but everything seemed too heavy. Then I heard about the new Yokohama AT4 tire. I looked it up on their website…285/75/16 is E rated, only weighs 54 pounds, has a 55K treadwear warranty AND is 3PMS rated. Simple Tire was running a Labor Day sale so I could get a set of 4 for under $1,000.

    :spending:

The closest thing I’ve ever been able to find to this tire is the Cooper AT3 XLT, but I never pulled the trigger on those because they aren’t 3PMS rated.

I ordered them yesterday so I’ll post more when I get them mounted, it will probably be a couple weeks because this was not planned lol and I’m not sure when I’m going to have time to get them on the truck. Here’s a stock photo from motor trend

Those look like they’ll be great!! Nice that they are light too.

Excited for you and your purchase.

I just ordered gorilla flex spray so I can beat the pinch weld down and seal it. I’ve had that as a to do for a while. Might pull the tires off today and beat and prime them then seal once I get the spray.

    Thanks!

Nice, remind me again…how much lift do you have? I’m wondering how much I’m going to have to do in order to get these to fit. I’m just hoping to avoid a CMC.

I think I’m sitting about 2.5”. Just enough that the cv boot ribs don’t rub or if they do it’s only slightly. There are times my tire rubs on the cab mount in full reverse.

what is your lift at and wheel backspacing do you have? Mine are -12 but I also have SPC UCAs that help move the wheel.

I saw 2 trucks that cut their cab mount and didn’t weld the plate, which I thought was weird but I guess that’s an option.

Ok gotcha, I’m at 1.55” of lift up front and my wheels are -10mm offset.

So, based on what you said, I might need the CMC although I think the Yoko’s I got are a bit smaller than your Baja bosses even though they’re the same size.

    @Road_Warrior

Want the light tires? Then buy golf cart AT tires..

That way you don't have to worry about any rubbing or heavy tires..
