Finally got around to moving my dual band radio from the jeep to the Taco.

RAM suction cup mount for the control face, the set is under the driver’s seat along with the external speaker.

Routed power out through the boot in the firewall and the separation wire runs down the A pillar trim and along the wiring harness to where it goes under the seat. Antenna coax runs out from the floor grommet across the engine bay to the Comet mount and antenna.

27” whip, lots of spring, tops out a little higher than the cab.

Nice mount, fits the hood lip and should still allow for clearing the eventual ditch lights. Adjustable in two axes.

Yes it is. Great display, dual vfo's, and cross-banding. I picked it up used with the mounting plate for $200 a few years back.

I have one in my other truck, its solid. No whizbang features, but if you just want to talk on 2m its a solid choice. FWIW, I got mine on Craigslist for $70.

You guys got any good recommendations on used classifieds for ham stuff? Looking for a Kenwood TM-V71A, or other dual band radios that have good APRS capabilities. The Yaesu I was originally looking at cant seem to do voice and aprs at the same time.

QRZ.com will have a decent collection of items for sale. I'm not sure how good the price will be on a used V71a compared to new. I bought mine for under 350 new and the last used one I saw on qrz'ed was around 300ish.

I got mine on QRZ right around new years. I paid $400 for it, which was a little steep, but it came with the separation kit and Mars cap mod.

Solid little box. Had one before I upgraded to the TM-D710GA and it got the job done. Only limitation for me was the lack of separate head unit and I couldn't find a place to mount it in view in the 3rd gen.
