I cleaned my throttle body and MAF sensor a few weeks ago. I just got back from the same 3hr trip I did before cleaning them. The first trip before cleaning I averaged 18.4 MPG. Today I averaged 20.4 MPG. I gained 2 MPG more! Traffic and driving conditions were very similar on both trips. I’m very impressed with the results. I did the throttle body while on the truck , spraying cleaner on a cloth, slowly opening the butterfly by hand, and wiping clean. MAF sensor was removed and sprayed clean. If you have 50k+ miles on your truck it may be a good idea to clean them. Just thought I’d share my experience.

I did mine the other day. CRC sells a 2 pack of throttle body cleaner and MAF cleaner in small 5 oz cans for around $10 at Wally World. It makes a huge difference.

I did mine pre 30k miles because I saw a you tube video and I like to tinker. I didn't note any efficiency changes though.

Somewhat related but I just had my spark plugs done and I also saw a bit of a gain in MPGs after a few tanks. 1-1.5mpg better than before on average.

Most likely the benefits will be more noticeable on a higher mileage truck, that’s never been cleaned. Mine has 69k on it.

Anyone have a good YouTube video that’s easy to learn from? I’m not very mechanically inclined but trying to teach myself.

The Care car nut channel has the best instructional video I’ve seen.

Car care nut has one. He's pretty good.... I usually watch 2 or 3 different videos just to get different perspectives.

If you haven't already. Follow "team oil drop" they are all around good guys and do a fantastic job on DIY maintenance. My last DIY was PCV valve, watching their video. They have cool Merch too. I have their 300k mile maintenance chart.

Jump forward to 13:10 to see that he says in no uncertain terms that the MAF sensor in 3rd gens should not be cleaned. The Team Oil Drop video showing spraying down the outside of the 3rd gen sensor is wrong on this one.

Stock with a camper shell for now.
I was actually going to do this today. So it’s bad to clean our maf sensor in our third gen Tacoma? Even though team oil drop shows how to and does it ?

No, clean it frequently. Just be mindful of the 2 tiny screws so you don't drop them in the engine bay or lose them. Huge throttle response improvement after.

The truck will hesitate to start a couple of times right after cleaning, but will fire up and then :burnrubber:

I cleaned my stuff about a month or two ago. MAF sensor has no change (cleaned the actual sensor, not the outside body lol). I used Techstream to watch the calculated load, saw no change. Highest I saw was like 83%. In his video, he says 80-90 is normal if I recall.

Throttle body was pretty dirty. Maybe was placebo but felt more responsive after that cleaning.
