I’ve been using the battery felt rings and the red battery protector spray for about 30 years. Haven’t had a battery post corrode.

Are you certain the cig lighter remains powered with the vehicle off? If it get's is power from a fused switched source (i.e. one that becomes powered after the ignition is turned on), then that's not going to do a thing.

Maybe one of those that connect across the battery terminals before removing them, or to the OBDII port?

    Man, good point!!
Is the one in the center console hot all the time?

The dodge and Chevy work trucks I’ve had all had them hot all the time and you can move the fuse over and make it switched.

I use my trip odos all the time and found out that when they suddenly zero on their own that your battery is done, as in that day!

You should be fine, to pull it off to clean it, those battery brushes are really good.
Just use dielectric grease on the terminals, or a thin wipe of wheel bearing grease.....or that fluid film if you have it.

When I wash mine I’ll open the hood and hose it down.....spay not stream and not a power washer.
    No issues !

If you have a digital multimeter check the voltage with the engine off (should be over 12) and running (should 13-14).

You know what professional shops do? Pour baking soda on the terminals with the cables attached, scrub with brush, then flush the whole area with a garden hose. First 90 seconds of this video:

Pretty certain in my '22 Sport it is only hot AFTER the ignition is on.

Most important part of the whole process.^^^

And when working the positive terminal, taking it off or putting it on, do not allow your tool to touch the body or any other cables in the area.

If the negative cable is off the battery then the body is no longer part of the circuit.....so that wouldn’t matter....BUT a good habit to form.

In reply #18 OP states that only the positive terminal is corroded. I'm curious if anyone knows an explanation for that as I appear to have the same.

lack of dielectric grease on only that terminal

your poor karma coming back to bite you

the cosmic interruption of jupiter aligning with mars

poor connection with your spirit animal

you haven't called your mother recently

or maybe because it has feelings to, and wanted some love. everyone deserves some love. even positive battery terminals.

Lol I'll have to call my mom I guess

I picked up a terminal brush, pads and some grease. Disconnected the battery and cleaned it off with baking soda and some water. Reconnected and greased her up. Guess I was just surprised to see it so soon since I bought it new in June 2022. I'll be greasing any battery replacements upon installation moving forward.
