2002 2.4l 4cyl, blower motor hardly works on low, works ok on high. removed motor and the fan is sluggish so needs cleaning but I can't figure out how to take it apart (a rare thing for me). I ordered a new one anyway but would like to clean this one still.
    thanks for the help.

It has been some time things sort of all blur together.

The motor comes out in the direction of the squirrel cage .

After all these years it might be stuck. Silicone spray might help

While your in there replace the blower motor resistor

Other than cleaning the cage, there isn't much else you can do. I think a member here managed to take it apart further, but if you already have on on the way, just sit tight.

Any more the new motors are so cheap it really does not pay to take the time to replace bearings .

I have stretched another year or 2 by spraying Kroil in the sealed bearings.

You may know already, but that white Felt material, the felt washer is there to hold oil for the bushing/bearing for that motor. That design with the felt washer to hold oil has been done for over 100 years. It looks dry, I'd saturate both if there's another one around the other bearing on the fan side, might have to take the fan off. I use 3 in 1 oil, for electric motors, ..blue can. I'm guessing you don't need a new motor, at least you have an extra.

There's a good chance the other problem
Is in the switch in the dash and or the wires that go into the switch.
The contacts in the switch do burn up and the wire plug that goes into the switch also burns up.
I had to replace the switch and the wires that attaches into the switch as they were burnt and only 2 fan speeds were working

I'd add oil to the new one also, this is where they cut corners ...oil/lube on bearings. It's not quite a hobby but I like to mess with electric motors. They seem to only put a tiny amount of oil on the bearings out of the factory on motors like this, it might be by design ....fail, get more of your $. I ordered a fan motor for the outside unit to my home AC. the first thing I did was take it apart to check the oil in the felt washer, practically nothing. I saturated both washers around each bearing, I probably won't have to ever mess with that again. You can buy electrical contact cleaner spray at an auto store, spray the brushes and commutator. If the windings and bearings are good and there's good electrical contact and no odd rubbing of parts, you shouldn't notice a performance diff between a new and old electric motor.

It has been years since I saw bearing able to be lubricated

nevermind, the part wont fit, the lip is a tad bit too large and the cage is bigger. returning it.

That reminds to not throw away my old parts if I have room to keep them. For the sake of curiosity, like a lot of C-frame electric motors, if there's felt to hold oil on that one, it's under that raised area where the shaft is coming out. If that motor was usable, I would've put drops of oil down next to the shaft or would've tried to hit it from the other side with a syringe. I have a computer microscope, I would've tried to use it to see if I could see what's on the other side. My 86 Toyota's blower kinda looks like yours, some things they don't change much.

oh, and the fan speeds work better with the new resistor, the old one looked fine though.
