Yeah I watched some YouTube videos and they made it super concerning to even wash or use a pressure washer but I was curious if you guys will bust out a pressure washer with no concern

17106127790782668451469852831427.jpg For years I've successfully cleaned my engines by spraying Simple Green on cold engine and then starting engine and spraying lightly with water hose ( avoiding direct spray on alternator and electrical components ) This is my 08 4Runner

Same here, what he says makes a lot of sense though. I don't drive through deep water on purpose so why would I hose down all the electronics under the hood?

    Here's more ideas from chrisfix

Personally I don’t see the point cleaning the engine bay. What’s the benefit besides having your hands “clean” when working in there.

Modern engines are full wiring harnesses and such, why risk it. My engine bay is pretty dirty and it’s staying like that.

I hose mine off a few times each year, no issues. I also use interior detailer spray and wipe down plastics and hoses once in a while. Still looks new.

    minor tweaks
I've been cleaning the engine once or twice a year for about 13 years so far, I use simple green and sometimes the (non diesel) gunk. Spray hose, a brush and compressed air cleans it up nicely. Obviously I don't squirt the hose at the alt or the wiring on the RH side.

Simply put, nothing good ever came from cleaning the engine bay.

Gunk degreaser works great. I don’t like their engine shine because it becomes tacky. Instead I use Bare Bones from Chemical Guys for the shine and apply it sparingly with a derail brush.

Cleaning the engine bay just makes me happy :D to see it clean but just be careful for someone else doing it. I cover the alternator with plastic bag. I clean the engine bay using simple green then using water hose to rinse it and I do not use a pressurized nozzle, I am making sure that I use the shower water output if I use a nozzle.

Lots of comments of why do it. This is 2000, so it has less "mess" to deal with, but this is why I do it. Simply put, it looks good and when you are done you step back and you feel good about a job well done.

Unfortunately, last year I sold that car when it had 36,000 miles on it
