    My.filter is looking pretty nasty..
My k&n cabin filter recharge kit is in storage atm.
Obviously K&N says only to clean it with K&N products.
Can I just clean it with soapy water for the time being?
    Or any cleaning suggestions?

You can clean it with anything you want. I just spray some 409/Simple Green etc and rinse. Maybe a shot of Febreez if you want after it dries.

Yup, any degreaser or soap, let it sit, rise and dry in sun.

I never use the K&N Cleaner on customers cars, its ineffective.

For the intake filter is there an alternative to the K&N oil or is that recommended?

If you an alternative to K&N, my recommendation for you to try Kootek Cabin Air Filter. It can effectively trap the road dust and pollen ranging from 5-100 microns and then dramatically improve the interior air quality of the vehicle. It combines active carbon and soda. The combination cleans the outside air flowing through the ventilation system.
