    I agree - don't C any sludge - stealership just trying to up the anti - don't believe they're being honest from what I can C in the picture. Did you actually find anything yourself ?? It certainly doesn't look anything like the picture posted by
    Accipiter13. Very curious. Thanks for any reply.

    Very infrequent (or nonexistent) oil changes, poor quality oil, lots of idling, lots of short trips, not allowing the oil to reach full operating temperature, which would prevent moisture and fuel contamination from being able to evaporate out of the oil.

    Sludge is caused when the oil breaks down due to the above factors causing oxidation.

    The above engine sludge would be the result of severe neglect. Like, just never changing the oil.
