Cleaning under the hood?

Anyone clean your engine bay regularly? Share your tips if so!

 

I use 303 on rubber and plastic and wax the underside of the hood.

 

I use some light simple green and a rag, toothbrush for crevices. And a little pump sprayer so i can accurately rinse it without getting too much in places it shouldn't be.

I usually dont clean my engine bay, but I've been having a rodent problem. So I need to clean up old footprint tracks to see if theres new ones...

 

I think chrisfix on youtube had a video or maybe 2 on underhood cleaning.

 

I use a mixture of dawn dish soap and water in a spray bottle with a brush and some low pressure water from the hose. Seems to do the trick without any andverse effects.

Since more than 3rd gen folks clean their trucks.

This, a rag, couple brushes, and some Simple Green.

 

i did for the first year and a half.

 

I just hit up my local self wash car wash and use the engine bay degreaser that comes out of the sprayer. Rinse it off with the wash soap and then rinse water.

 

Damn that B**** is spotless!

 

Did you have to scrub?

 

I have cleaned the engine bay on every car I’ve owned and I have never had an issue. I washed the engine bay in my ‘18 Taco OR a couple days ago. It was its first cleaning and I have about 1500 miles on my truck. I lightly spray the entire engine with a garden hose (flat spray pattern), then spray engine degreaser (like the stuff vrod671 uses), let it set on the engine for a few minutes then hose off. Engine bay looks new again.

 

You also want to get rid of the scent the mice leave that makes them feel safe.Keep it clean if they get on it to wash their scent away

Dow Scrubbing Bubbles bathroom cleaner. Spray on let sit five minutes and hose off. Been using it for years.

 

I remember reading in the manual to spray off the engine bay at least once a month depending on driving styles, I have done it about 5 times with just a good old fashioned garden hose set on high pressure spray...seems to work well..

 

This stuff is magic. Never used it to clean a car engine though. I'll have to give that a shot.

 

Just light agitation then scrub for the thick, heavier stuff. Its tedious, but worth it.
