Recommendation’s Requested : Clear Coat Bubble getting bigger, how to stop the bleeding.
I have a small clear coat bubble on my Snugtop camper Shell. It started about the size of a quarter, but after a week of rain, it is now the size of a banana. How do I stop the bleeding?
I requested a quote from my local MAACO Paint shop, $3,000 minimum as they would have to do a whole new clear coat.
Somebody recommended cutting the bubble and covering it with clear coat Nail polish. Any & all life hacks / recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you. ( I have a 2006 Toyota Tacoma, 2nd generation Tacoma camper shell )

That paint quote is bogus. $3000 to paint a topper is insane even if you were painting it a completely different color. And they should be able to paint that spot and blend it with the rest of the paint I'd think. Unless the entire paint job is trash too.

Do you like the color it is currently? If you can't stomach a paint job, one other option would be to just Line-X the whole topper. It will never have issues with anything happening to it again. That said, it might not look right depending on your truck's current aesthetics. I'd think it would be the same price as a spray in bed liner which is fairly cheap.

Your best option, to be honest, would be to wrap the topper. That would be a lot less money and you have your options for color too.

Yeah I agree $3k is bogus, some shops only want to do insurance work so they give you wacky quotes like that to tell you "go away". I bought a used shell for $900 and had it resprayed at a local body shop for $450 cash. For $3k you can buy a whole new topper. Find a different body shop or yeah look into alternatives like wraps, Line-X, or DIY some Raptor Liner.

    That's a big banana.

You can't stop clearcoat failure. And you can't just sand it off and reclear, because the sanding will damage the base coat.

I'd prep and refinish it with Monstaliner in a smooth-ish texture. They have lots of colors, you might even find one very similar to your silver if you feel you have to match the truck.

Yep, my 14-15 year old Leer in the silver is doing the same thing. There is no stoping it. Since it continues to bubble and flake off will a wrap even stick?

It has been a number of years but I had a shell printed for $300. I removed the windows and did a first layer sanding then took it to the paint shop.
