I took a quick look over my hood and top of the truck. I don't see any fading or damage so far. Maybe it was just a small production run that had this issue.

Hey Axelcarvajal! You're not alone! I too have a 2017 Tacoma in Blazing Blue Pearl and the roof and hood looks identical to yours. In fact, I thought that maybe it was being caused by particulate from my companies roof top fan units but no one else in the parking lot showed anything like this on their vehicles but to be safe my company called their insurance company and an Adjuster came out this a.m. and as soon as he looked at it he said "that's a Toyota Factory issue, I just read about it on line" and I was like WHAT THE %$#$ !!! How come Toyota isn't contacting owners with this color? Two years old and it looks like it's 20! I love my truck like you read about but I want it to age gracefully. I have my last free service appointment tomorrow and you bet your bottom dollar that I WILL be talking to someone about this issue.

Toyota has had these paint issues for decades! Only colors that I haven't really seen it on is the charcoal gray and the White.

Going to go out on limb here.. Every time I see a vehicle with faded paint, it is blue? No matter the mfg, it seems like 90% of the time it's blue. You would think that every black vehicle would have horrible clear coat damage, yet you really don't see that? Makes me wonder if most of the damage is UV related to the blue color? Make a mental note and try to find other colors that are faded as bad as blue?

My coworker has a white 2nd gen and the paint is literally peeling/chipping off all over his truck like a very bad maaco paint job

@Norsemanvike you've probably already seen this but I thought I would give you a heads-up just in case.

Thanks, I'm watching it like a hawk and being diligent about sealant/wax every 2-3 months or so. I appreciate you looking out for me! :hattip:

Toyota should offer diminished value. If this appears in tje carfax. This is horrendous and I hope it doesnt happen to other colors later on.

If its happening on the roof, it will eventually happen everywhere else.

Nice. We'll have to chat over the local repeaters once you get it installed. Hank can hook you up with the channels. You have a licence right?

Got the same exact issue with my 2017 Tacoma and yes btcca4, it's also Blazing Blue Pearl!! So far everyone that's had this issue has this same color. Two Vermont Winters and it now looks like it's 25 years old! Headed to the Dealer tomorrow for my last complimentary service visit and I WILL be discussing the paint issue. I also spoke with the National Toyota Customer Service folks about this and they're telling me that it's completely covered under the standard 3 year bumper-to-bumper warranty so for those of you who bought your truck new from a Dealer we should be taken care of. What that entails, I won't know until tomorrow but I'll post tomorrow and give you the skinny. In the meantime, here a few pics of my poor baby.

    Wish me luck!

Every problem with the Tacoma has something to do with assembly here America.

look at the blatant paint and assembly errors on Teslas....

Wtf is wrong with American labor?

When I did my time in factories in warehouses, I was always blown away by how some people just couldn’t get through the simplest tasks.

I just got my 2017 BBP back from a full warranty re-paint for the fading caused by the clear coat failing. It looks great now.

The dealership initially acted surprised and said I was their first complaint, now they've had several. The service manager told me that the affected vehicles have all fallen into a specific VIN range, FYI.

most don't have the work ethic and don't give e a shit as long as they can take the easiest route of doing things....not made to do it over....unions don't help with bad employees either.....we need to go back to pay for good pieces and no pay for bad ones and you have to fix your own errors

FWIW -- I have not seen a single BBP AC model reported (yet) with this problem. As you may or may not know all AC's are made in in San Antonio TEXAS
So unless someone can prove me wrong -lets stop bashing US AMERICAN labor. (based on this paint issue)

Well I had my last free service visit and then met with the Service Mgr about the paint fading. As expected, he said he hadn't heard of this issue before. I told him about the different folks in here that were having the same exact issue and that I wanted a complete new paint job. At the very least I wanted the entire cab repainted and re-clear coated. He took pics and said he would send into Toyota and get back to me. I don't see any scenario where the Dealership would push back on this. It's not on their dime. This is a complete, cut and dry warranty issue. I've got just under 19K on it and just hit the 2 year mark. Taco's come with 3 year bumper-to-bumper warranty which includes the exterior paint. I got this straight from Toyota's Main Customer Service Folks. Now we wait to see what happens. More news as I get it.
