The paint on my 2011 Prerunner looks decent with the exception of the peeling clear coat on the roof. Has anyone painted the roof black rather than paining the entire truck? The truck is dark green and I’m assuming new green paint won’t match the rest of the truck as it isn’t garaged and has probably faded. Thought, suggestions? Wraps? Thank you

This is typical of Tacos that are 8 years old and older. You can paint it or wrap it or what ever. But that will be a temporary fix. Next other parts of the truck will start peeling. My neighbors trucks roof started peeling so he had it painted. It was white so easy to match. Within a couple months he had peeling clear coat on his hood and fenders. After spending $800 to do the roof he just went and had the whole truck painted. The rest of your paint may be fine for a couple years but it also may not.

My 2010 is looking really bad. Hood and roof. At this point I’m going to bite the bullet and get a full paint job. Heard mikes auto body of Clearwater does good work. Any other suggestions? Actually wouldn’t mind swapping out the hood for one with a scoop while I’m at it.

I Plasti Dipped my roof black to protect it until I can get it properly painted.

I was going to DIY it but then I had mine repainted at a body shop for $750.

$750 for the whole truck or just the roof? If the whole truck who did it for that price?

I used two cans and 10' of blue painters tape, it was super easy. I put a coat on the grill to finish off the cans. The sun has already set here in TN. I'll post a picture in the morning.

Make it smooth then vinyl wrap it black is my suggestion. Plasti dip is fine too but I find that it fades and turns grey over time.

Just paint it with house paint and a brush. I can guarantee it’ll come out nice

If you have it painted the same color, the body shop should be able to match the color to the "faded" paint.

I don’t doubt that the Dip will fade. I’m only using it untill I have the cash to get it properly painted. But I have had it on the roof for a year with no issues or fade. It was my first time to Dip something so you can see issues in the spray job I did.

Just the roof. This is in San Francisco Bay Area where everything is super expensive.

I had to have my roof and hood repainted as they were both getting pretty bad. It ended up running me about 1100 if I recall. I now just keep a good coat of ceramic wax on it every couple of months. My fenders are looking rough as well but I’ll wait a while before I act on that part.

I had a roof respray recently in the south bay area. $750-800 is about average for the job around here.

I had my whole truck including the camper shell painted by Maaco 10 months ago with their 2 stage process. My hood, roof and a little on the fenders was peeling. The truck is a 2009, 12 years old. I know a number of people bad mouth Maaco but most of those people don’t have first hand knowledge. They are going by what someone said or they heard. I paid $2500 and they did a great job. I closely inspected it and see no problems or flaws. My neighbor across the street had his Chevy truck painted by Maaco a couple months before mine (because of peeling clear coat)and his also came out awesome. I can’t see spending $5000 or $6000 or more to paint a 10 plus year old truck. Here’s a couple pics of mine. It was dirty and needed a wash but it looks pretty darn good. 06888B91-374A-4EEC-A05D-02128B6964C9.jpgB33AA4D7-652A-4315-AA8B-D4797E5C55E2.jpg E460091F-4799-42F6-B1B4-8C4B86D6827E.jpg

Thanks. I ended up taking it to a body shop recommended by a co-worker and they did a nice job repairing the roof and hood. Matched the original green.
