Couldn't agree with you more especially with the Can-Am idiots (not all but a hand full of them). I was hit head on by one a few months ago around Pioneertown and had to be towed out as the impact tore my front through the radiator. We had taken Rattlesnake canyon and were headed to Big Bear when a group of these morons passed me doing at least 40 + MPH if not a lot more. There are 15MPH signs posted frequently on the trails as well. One of them loses control and skids into me, luckily they survived otherwise would have made it on the evening news.

Got my truck fixed and put a steel bumper on it. Hopefully this will never happen again but gives me chills every time I see a side by side. On a separate note, this experience has amplified my love for the rig as I realized how well they are built. Behind the cheap plastics resides the real Taco lol.

Had a friend get his 4runner sideswiped by a SxS up there. The guys didn't even bother to stop.

Yup. Some people seem to drive it like it is a race course and goes one way. It's only the SXS crowd though, not the bikes or ATVs. It's like none of them have any experience. Maybe it's just the culture of those things. The Can-Am guy had his wife and two kids in it, no helmets or goggles. He nearly turned it over onto my cab and hood two times trying to get by me on the embankment. I couldn't back up, I had a bunch of people behind me. He had a draw he could pull into about 50 feet back, but he wouldn't do it. Once I, and the people behind me, got past he just went flying on down the trail again.
Realistically, if he wanted to drive it hard, and I get that, he should have gone down to Ocotillo Wells or Plaster City, or up to El Mirage or Johnson Valley. The Cajon Pass to Big Bear trail system is not meant for that.
A little too much stupid and something will end up closed.

    Maybe...

    Juuuust maybe.....

The brakes failed, causing the roll over...

And putting the truck back on it's wheels with no brakes on a steep dirt hill with wash out ruts would be a bad idea.

    Maybe :notsure:

Another flop on the same obstacle at Cleghorn.

Sounds like they are recovering this one the right way though at least

Probably going 'let's do it again!'

My brother was 4 when the big '94 earthquake hit LA and that was the first thing he said when the shaking stopped

I've never run this trail, but is it common to flip rigs over like this?

It's been 3 so far, in the past couple of months.....but more and more people are looking for alternatives to get out and about since pretty much everything else is closed.
Camping and wheeling are the primary sources of entertainment.

I'm guessing more novices on the trails pushing things past their comfort zones

I don't believe this is the main trail, but rather an off shoot. My guess is that inexperience has a lot to do with it, both driving and spotting.

It's a steep downhill offshoot with a couple big staggered ledges. You have to go down them straight on in 4lo and you're fine. I suspect people are either attempting it in 2wd which is really dumb, or getting sketched out and trying to skirt it and going too off-camber and flopping over.

    Stawk as FUCK!
And people call me crazy for taking my Tacoma to Johnson Valley, Ocotillo Wells, and Glamis hahahaha further proof that these fire road trails are NOTTT for me. Slow paced, idiots everywhere, and not many escape routes. Hard pass, only open desert for me. Yikes!

He rolled on a off chute, not the fire road.

I still get his point though, trails like Cleghorn are so crowded these days it's a dice roll each time you go out whether or not you're going to get hit by some idiot in a SxS whipping around corners like he owns the place, or some idiot in a stolen square body Chevy taking it for a drunken joyride

I'm a little bitter about it if you can't tell

I completely agree, but I am one of those dumb 2wd that has attempted all the off chute.even 2n49 and survived. Yes, the 5 foot waterfall drops are scary af!. Once you venture that far.... there is no turning back.
