    You need the mount i believe...you can just store it in your cab when not using. I am not sure you can just take the antenna part off and mount it somewhere. I would have to see the mount...but i believe the mount is connected to the cable.

    Tri may be correct. Depending upon the model they will place a coil in the base or on the lower part of the antenna to compensate for the shortness (vs a full wave whip). If it sounds like I am fos I might be.
