Clicking in rear on deceleration

    Only time it doesn't do it is when you're accelerating. Little info... It has 583 gear and lock right locker. Sounds like grinding when you're slowing down until you get to 10-15 mph then you can hear the actual individual clicks. I pulled the third member to peak inside and inspect and everything looked normal. No unusual wear or metal shavings. Any ideas?

    The clicking is the locker, that's normal. Grinding, doesn't sound normal to me. I had a lock right in an old fj-40 cruiser and an aussie locker(same thing, different brand) in an 80 series Cruiser. Both had the click audible at slow speeds. Neither had a grinding sound.

    Wait a minute, it should click while turning. This isn't during a turn?

    You should pull the third and check the pins in the locker. There are spring loaded pins sandwiched between the two halves, right? It's been a long time...

    It's not so much grinding but the clicking at a higher rate that sounds like grinding...

    At higher speeds(also higher speed that the diff I spinning) it should be locked up. Tires ever chirp? Or squeal?

    Also, I'd think the third has to be pulled to get to the springs and pins. I had totally forgotten about the lunchbox lockers. Might be something I want for my taco. I loved it. Super reliable locker.

    Yeah it works for sure but the noise is terrible lol... And I'm really not sure if the clicking is per wheel or driveshaft revolution. I'll have the jack it up and check.

    love my no-slip. 30k problem free so far.


    I dont think this noise is caused by the locker. in a straight liner theres no moving parts associated with it.

    Wow, I dunno then. The clicking was more than tolerable in both my cruisers. And it shouldn't click going straight. The click comes from one wheel spinning at a different rate than the other. At higher diff speed the locker locks up and doesn't allow the wheels to spin at different speeds.

    Yeah if it's working then I think you're right. No noise would be coming from it at all in a straight line

    I reread your original post, OP. You are hearing the individual clicks while moving in a straight line?

    Both the lock-rite and no-slip are powertrax brand. The no-slip is a more street friendly locker and is much quieter as it doesn't click around turns.
