Hey guys, so I know there’s a lot of threads about this and it’s usually all over the place. I heard CV joints will click and pop while turning if it’s bad. But this only happens while in reverse and full lock either way. And I noticed very rarely it’ll maybe the noise if I slow down to a stop. But not often. I don’t ever hear it while driving and turning like normal or while doing U-turns. And also recently when to Joshua tree in 4wd and no weird noises that would lead be to think my CV is bad.

It’s been happening about a 1 1/2 year or 2. Same time I added new LCAs and Aftermarket arms and crappy spacer lift with 2019 Tacoma shocks. I kind of learned to ignore it. But it hasn’t gotten worse. The reason i came back to it is because My cv inner boot has a slight tear now. So I was going to replace it but wanted to make sure this clicking wasn’t from the cv joint. Because then I would just a buy a whole new CV axle instead.

My plan for this weekend is to grease the steering stops, re-torque the suspension bolts and inspect my bolt on wheel spacers. And check the brake pads for any slop. The wheel bearings are about 2 1/2 years old so I don’t think that’s it. And I’m going temporarily gorilla glue the small tear on the inner boot. Until I figure this out.

Here is a video of the noise. Thanks guys I would appreciate your insight. So I can do some checks and tests to find out this problem!

By the way the spacer lift and OEM shocks are gone. I have icons on and no sway bar :muscleflexing:

i wish that would be my problem. But I have no skids on :D front one took off because of aftermarket bumper and ripped my trans skid off while wheeling in Big Bear.

Sounds like a typical CV click. If it has gotten worse over time I would suspect the CV. Time for a cvj replacement. Also check wheel bearings.

Edit: I re read you changed the wheel bearings. Did you use timkin or koyo? Or a off the shelf one from a auto parts store?

Hasnt gotten worse at all. From the past maybe 2 years of driving still the same click and no vibes or anything even in 4wd it doesn’t get worse. And I will check wheel bearings again but I replaced them maybe 2 1/2 years ago.

I still suspect a CV joint. As it's rotational. You could try swapping CV from side to side and see if it follows

from your experience will a bad cv joint click in all directions while turning at full lock or is it normal to only click in reverse at full lock? I haven’t had one gone bad so I’m trying to get more insight.

I've seen them click at all kinds of different angles. Only turning left and only going straight reverse. Also seen them go bad without any noise at all.

Oh wow okay that’s good for me to know. Maybe I’ll put it out and test it by rotating the joint and check for binding

Did you ever figure out what the issue was and how to fix it? I am dealing with this right now myself. Sounds just like your video. Thanks.

hey sorry, I just saw this. It was something with the CV axle like Desert Runner was saying. I ended up replacing them with aftermarket because of the boot was torn and the noise stopped. But I ended up cleaning my OEM axles and added new boots and grease and put them back on the truck and there’s no issues. So not sure exactly what happened but the noise is gone.
