Hey fellas, just installed new tires and I’ve been hearing some clicking noises between the speeds of 30-45 mph (https://youtu.be/rGhQooR4W4Y). I’ve been trying to inspect the wheel area to see where the sound could be possibly coming from and came with 2 possibilities.
1.being the plastic area is not molded together and possibly flapping during driving?

    2. In side the wheel, tire shop guy, put weights to balance, could this be hitting anything during drive? EAC55246-D96B-423E-8102-2A42A2F2E82D.jpg
It was suppose we to be exciting today,I prepared myself by doing all the necessary bmc. However, kind of disappointed. Anyone have any suggestions? I’m willing to drive and meet up if it will help in learning what’s wrong with my truck.

Are there any witness marks on the weights?

Yeah like marks and scratches on the weights the tech put on the inside of the wheel.

If so they may be hitting something, though I would assume if they are hitting something hard enough to make a noise they would just fall off.

They are only held on by some adhesive, I usually loose mine whenever I go play in the mud.

Take the truck back to whomever installed the tires and have them find and fix whatever is making the noise (probably weights hitting the caliper).

If you want a faster fix, take front wheels off and move the stacked weights immediately next to the other weights. The adhesive probably won’t stick so put some duct tape over them.

So went to the shop and you guys were right. Apparently it was hitting the weights and they took care of it and the sound is gone.... now to address the rubbing when reversing :bananadance:

I looked everywhere and came to the conclusion that I am not rubbing any plastic. I am however, hitting my uca’s at full lock reversing only. Is this going to be a problem and is there any solution?

What size tire did you run? 3rd gen right? Maybe try wheels with more backspacing or wheel spacers?

@K_Sandhu could probably give some pointers, his tires are huge.

This is due to improper alignment or improper back spacing/offset of rims. What type of rims and tire size you got? Majority of time this could be fixed by a good alignment tech. I have 35x12.5 and I do rub on Total Chaos UCA's on full lock even after alignment, but I don't mind little bit of rub at full lock. Also, if you have wider tires and you deflate them while offroading they become even wider and rub quiet a bit at that point on full lock.

It definitely seems like an alignment issue to me since your tires aren't too wide and offset and backspacing are good. In the Norcal spotted and BS thread people have mentioned and I have personally seen those alignment techs faking numbers.
Where did you take your truck for alignment? Where do you live? You might want to ask people in this thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/norcal-spotted-and-bs-thread.53517/ and people might be able to help you find good alignment shop near you. I took my truck to custom alignments in mountain view, but one of their techs told me they work with another shop is Castro Valley which is pritty good. Wheel spacers will definately fix this issue since your rim will be sticking out more....or you can go long travel:spending:

If you're rubbing your UCA, then the only thing that will fix that is a wheel with more poke or some wheel spacers. Either one will push the wheel out further away, but may cause it to rub the truck in other areas.

Did you have an alignment done since you installed the larger tires? If not, you might want to make sure you are dialed in and no issues with potential tire wear. Only reason I mention it is your alignment sheet shows 265/70/16 tires and you said you put on 285/75s. Perhaps the alignment tech just simply didn't input the tires correctly on settings - I don't know.

If you ever want to try another shop, Custom Alignment in Mountain View is awesome - excellent work!
