hey guys. I recently came back from a two week trip offroading. My 08 tacoma is getting a clicking sound in my dash when i try to engage my 4wd either high or low. If i switch my ignition off and on repeatedly it works sometimes to engage it.

Can someone please point me to the problem? Is it the little black box behind the glove my transfer case or any other thing. Please help. I would really appreciate it.

All the usual diesel truck mods- fuel system upgrade, programmer, CAI, intake manifold, 60MM stealth turbo
From my experience this is not yotally out of the ordinary- others will probably disagree. Does the illuminated 4x indicator flash when not engaged? Mine does this and sometimes just putting it into or taking out of gear makes it Engage. Moving a foot or so does it too. My wife's old 2nd gen 4Runner was the same way but even worse. I've read somewhere the system will not engage or disengage unless "it's safe"
Hope you're not experiencing a more complicated problem

Are you moving at all when you try to engage?
