The problem I am having is that the A/C temperature control knob clicks when turned.

The knob itself is not the problem, but something inside or behind the mechanism that the knob connects to. Because of this problem the temperature does not change when the knob is turned.

Has anyone run into this situation before?

I am going to begin to disassemble the dash in order to get a closer look.
Any advice along the way would be greatly appreciated....

My Tacoma is a 2000 TRD Auto. Thanks.

    None, yet

Check a junkyard for the assembly.

Sounds like a loose or disconnected control cable ...
