02, TRD. Noticed something odd today while driving. The OE digital clock appeared to have a little orange dot lit up in the lower right hand corner. There might have been a symbol in it.

Since I was driving, I could not get a good look at it and just made a mental note to check it when I parked.

Of course I forgot about it until driving back and, of course, it was not on.

The owners manual makes no mention of such a thing. Any ideas what it could be?

Yeah, pretty much in the lower right, more or less to the side of the "00" button. I did shine a light in there, diagonally, and could see a little dot, but could not tell what it was. Strange.

It is a scheduled service reminder for the clock. You need to wind it up and the light will go away.

perhaps it is one of the soldering parts that is failing?

    no humor in this, though

I was pulling into my drive and it came on. I managed to get a picture to post, but it was extremely difficult as it would fade and get brighter and disappear as I tried to snap it. Finally it dawned on me, when it remained on when I removed the key.

It must be sunlight doing it.

Sure enough, by moving a junk mail envelope around I could make it go off. I thought it was reflection off something, but I could only make it go out reliably by putting the envelope tight up in the recess right under the clock, but I can see nothing there but a seam were the panels meet.

    Oh, well.

    Sorry, more Toyota humor! LOL!
These things are so hard to see in the first gen's unless you tilt your head a little bit, right??

Actually no! In my 95.5 it's clear and bright green but I have to tap it to work when I get in the truck Haha its blacked out then when I tap the screen it appears like everything is cool.

there might be a fix now for that clock having to be tapped
but Toyota customer support would say this is normal

its probably the different style of steering wheel the newer 1st gens have is why the clock is hard to see :notsure:

You mean this must be the humorous third gen type thread/problem people talk about? (where what you perceive as a problem, is actually not really a problem or issue at all. Common in the third gen section)

I don't have a clock in mine, but seems like it would be the "am" dot vs. a "pm" no dot that is common on digital clocks.
Is there an alarm feature to the clock? If so it would require an am/pm indicator for the time.

yes! i get to contact 1-800 customer care (again) and ask for assistance on how to set the alarm on my trucks clock :) I wonder what solutions they can provide to me ... the last couple of pertinent issues they have been absolutely no help to me and i am getting very discouraged

No alarm, no am vs pm light either, it's light reflecting through somewhere. That's all. It's not an issue or a problem. Thread over. This doesn't need to be another rope hook topic.
