Ok. I live in down town Dover De. (Actually live on corner of busy highway) No woods around at all. Walked to truck today and put my hand into the handle to unlock and opened door. Next to my truck there is this waist high bush in drive way. As I open the door I hear a noise in the bush and think it is a cat or something, I lean down a bit to look and a damn turkey (looked like a jake) bust out and hit me in the chest then decides to enter my tacoma where the door is open. I fall back and when I get to my feet the damn bird shit on my seat then decided to fly out, shit on roof of house and fly away. this is %true. You cant make this shit up in a town with no woods.
seat cleaned up and all good. Still a bit startled. Lol

My best yet is from last October. Three of us were walking along on an ATV trail and had a grizzly burst onto the trail 15 ft from us, drop a frozen chunk of guts on the trail, and continued running as fast as it could. Thankfully, that was in the other direction.

Yeah, I decided that I really didn't need to go back to my tent before heading to the hot springs on that one.

Not mine - pulled from Portsmouth Island Fishing Facebook page. PI is a twenty mile long by half to a quarter mile wide uninhabited barrier island a few miles off the NC mainland and part of Cape Lookout National Seashore. There are no roads to or on the island and access is by boat or private ferry only. A week or so back reports started to appear of bear poop/track sightings but none of the photos were clear enough to convince me. This one has changed my mind. Hurricane Dorian did wash several cows over there back in the Fall so I guess its not too much of a stretch for a bear to make it.

Many years ago exactly 42 yrs , I was backpacking with a group in the Ansel Adams Wilderness in the Eastern Sierras . I was hiking down a trail by myself when i heard and saw movement on a ridge just above me

Knowing that I'm in a known Mtn lion area I kept looking around as I know I was being stalked by one . This animal followed me for about 10-15 minutes before it disappeared . I believe what scared this animal off was that a pin on my backpack frame squeaked as I was walking

Lots o' bear encounters (all black fortunately), and coyotes; but no pics.

Years ago I came across a 3-legged bear (still living); he apparently lost one in a snare/trap.

Here's from the Catskills a few years back:

I was talking on my phone outside on Tuesday and a black bear casually strolled out of our woods about 25 ft from me, then proceeded to tear down my birdfeeder and lazily eat seed while my wife and I photographed and videotaped from our deck.

The next day we saw a gray fox eating seed too. Same thing, he didn't really care that we were there.

We have tons of deer and feed them cracked corn. I guess they must have let the bear and fox in on the secret recently.

These are just our house in the last few days. My wife and spend a lot of time hiking, camping, and fishing, so we have had a lot of close encounters over the years.

Dad saw some bobcats down on Seabrook the night after i left. pretty cool seeing a bobcat and kittens just roaming around yards like nothings going on.
